Why would it be considered "jumping into a hasty situation" by signing a GM early when that someone is the best candidate?

Because they/he may not be considered the best candidate... didn't think it was that difficult to read or understand.

In a business, you make it a point to interview all candidates before making a decision. The "Leave no stone un-turned" quote is a perfect example.

Imagine if the Panthers would have taken that quote into fruition last year and when out of the way to interview Harbaugh, the Panthers probably wouldn't be in this position to begin with if they had.

Or they can do that and Ross gets taken by someone else while we get other teams leftovers just like every offseason in Panthers history.

Considering the only other team that might be looking for a GM is the Chargers, I doubt that will happen.

Hiring a general manager is not like hiring a coach, you can do a much more thorough investigation on your prospects because usually at most there is only around two other teams looking for a general manager.

Also, you have to look at from the interviewees perspective too, he will also want to make sure that he is getting the best deal.

The Panthers will definitely line up an interview with Ross as soon as possible but don't expect a decision to made in the next two weeks.

That's assuming that he is the best candidate. Tom Gamble is more qualified, honestly.

But, I see Gamble as the only reason we wouldn't hire Ross right away.

Jags and Browns also looking for new GMs and also yiu have to consider if we are looking for a new HC do we really want to drag out the GM search all the while all the top HC candidates are gone and we are still in the midst of hiring a new GM.

I see your point, but I'd really like to interview Gamble before hiring someone. I like Ross but I also like Gamble.

I don't know much on Dave Gentleman

Dont the Browns already have Banner at the GM spot? Thought Banner was a guy Haslam was looking at anyway.

The fired Holmgreen and replaced him with Banner. But I thought Banner was a guy they were eyeing for anyway. I'm sure they're not looking to replace Banner.

I'm pretty sure you're right. Haslam brought Banner with him from Philly, so I'm sure they're bound together.
