Yet another Chip Kelly source/rumor

Honestly if Jerry hadn't made his mind up 4 weeks ago about Ron Rivera then this organization is in trouble. You CANNOT evaluate a coach for a team that should be a playoff contender based on games that don't matter. It's a joke to do that when 90% of being a HC is making tough decisions and getting your team to the playoffs. He has been terrible and IMO Chip Kelly would come in here and maybe be the most efficient HC in the NFL. The guy is a freaking machine, whether or not he runs that Oregon offense is besides the point...he is a stud head coach.

those defenses show up in the playoffs every year just like last year when vince wilfork helped pats win over the ravens and the last second toucdown they knocked loose.

didnt packers have someone int ben when he was about to take the lead......defense is very important in superbowls hopefully someone can get it right.

people are wanting to see Kelly with Cam and our offense to see what he can do with it. I don't think it would be any better than what Chud is doing.

It would be better for the simple reason that Chip Kelly is a football genius. We aren't comparing Kelly to Chud. We are comparing Kelly to Rivera. Rivera's shitty decision-making in clutch situations is why he should be fired. He lacks the ability to think critically under pressure...which is a necessity in his profession.

I see nothing in that source's quote in which he says Chip is being considered here. He just says the rumor is "most interesting".

They give you an inch, you guys take it a mile.

I wouldn't necessarily mind him here but hell guys, this is all hearsay yet you wanna crown his ass already. Keep your panties on.

It's not a secret that the Panthers are interested. Everyone in the league knows it, this is just another person (who happens to be very knowledgeable about all things college football) who mentioned it. I'm still waiting for him to elaborate, but again, everyone knows they are interested. Doesn't mean it will happen.

this.

thats why i want him. besides him being a great offensive mind i believe in his ablility to lead teams and take over the lockerroom. i hope we land him. we need a big name coach to take us to the next level.

Yep. Plus what Razor has posted about the intensity of his practices. This Norv Turner style, lackadaisical, wait until 10 games into the season to play ball garbage has got to go.

The fact that our fan base is suggesting that we keep Rivera because we might upgrade from completely sh!tty to NorvTurner-esque mediocrity, is hilarious.

they have playmakers on defense yes. and we dont? luke, cj, kraken, beason, td.

their claim to fame those seasons was offense. they got to were they were through offense. did defensive play a part? yes but i see that the panthers could easily do the same thing. get a great dc then we are in great shape.

I actually find myself cheering for Rivera to return at the thought of Chip Kelly. I remember Brian Billick saying this week on Mike and Mike, that Chip Kelly would be the only coach for someone like The Golden Calf of Bristol to play for, because of that Oregon offense. So if Chip Kelly is the favorite if we are getting a new coach, I'm cheering for Rivera to win these last two games (in blowout fashion) and keep his job.

How would the Panthers be interested in him if they don't even have a GM?

here is more in the organization and more to the decision making than a GM.

it's quite possible the team knows who they want as far as a GM and a coach next year. it could be that they know the direction their prospective GMs would want to go. It could be that Accorsi is giving advice for the organization that would have them going that way.

it wasn't just advising on and recommending a GM that Accorsi was supposed to be doing. that's the main thing, but not the entirety of the scope.

if that's true, bullick is in the minority.

who's he coaching for by the way? could be he's out of touch with the direction the league is going.

most seem to think he'd be able to be successful.

and you'd get over it when you figure out the chip kelly offense isn't as out there as you think it is.

I do think Chip Kelly will be our next HC. I think we finish 6-10, Rivera is fired, and JR brings in Kelly.

I am not thrilled about it. I'd rather have someone proven. It reminds me of when Cleveland brought in Butch Davis from Miami. Ultimately, Davis energized the Browns and went 7-9 before going 9-7 and losing in the wildcard playoffs but proved that he was not the answer to win HUGE games and the franchise was set back. I could see that here. I would rather have a guy with experience at the NFL level more qualified than Rivera. A guy we turn into a great. Mike Zimmer perhaps.

other than being college coaches there are no similarities between kelly and butch.

    • There's some big assumptions in here - first, I think Canales HAS helped Bryce a poo ton. To pretend he hasn't is asinine. Has he fixed him?  I mean, the dude looks like he could perhaps be a backup or low-end starter now, whereas he looked like he didn't belong in the NFL a year ago. You're talking about a coach that brought one of the worst NFL QBs of all time to a point where he may actually be a low-end starter. That IS impressive. Second, the bolded. Come on - given the offense, the dude is far from "trending towards bust." He definitely needs work but he's shown an impressive ability to get open. He's contributing to an anemic offense. The dude is our leading receiver (though he'll be #2 in yardage by end of season by a little, as Thielen does better per game).  As to his coaching, he had this team competing and believing against 3 of the better teams in the NFL, despite the lack of talent, and despite our QB situation.  Yes, things fell apart vs DAL, and he was outcoached. But that will happen with young coaches IMO.  I don't think it indicates he cant' be better. The idea of "pulling off the bandage" is ridiculous. Who would want to coach here if we fired this guy after one season?
    • Whatever they are in totality the cowboys are beat up all to hell on both sides of the ball and even that was too much for lil Bryce to overcome.  Bryce defenders have to hype up every other team and trash every other part of the panthers just because of the situation they’ve put themselves in.
    • JB had a first round grade in the eyes of a lot scouts based on HIS TALENT LEVEL. If not for the injury he would have gone higher in the draft, possibly between the middle and the end of round 1. To get him just before the 50th pick is a steal. He'd be on a 4 year deal. You can't even renegotiate until the end of the season 3. You're basically paying him nothing for 3 seasons. I don't buy into all back are interchangeable. No they're not. You have average backs, good backs, then your great-exceptional backs. The latter category doesn't grow on trees. If a back is special it pays to keep them. The key is knowing the difference between the first two categories and the third one.
