Ron Rivera Should be Given a 3rd Year

Well that's pretty much how it is every year for a Panthers fan.

This fan base just fiercely clings to the mediocrity it has become used to witnessing for so long.

Two consecutive wins since what, December last year? Now we are practically building Rivera a statue.

Anyways, it would be quite funny if the Panthers gave Rivera one more year then he led us to the Super Bowl lol. Oh the crow that would be eaten.

First Ron would have to learn how to not get out coached in the fourth quarter of every close game.

I think Ron just might have "it" but Chud's gotta go. Ron's time management blunders and failure to bitchslap Chud in the first three weeks of the season spelled his doom. Once Chud's stupid offense was shelved, the Panthers looked like an actual NFL team again.

People talk about beating mediocre teams, but two teams we've beaten are currently division leaders. We know Ron CAN lead us to victory. But the fact is that he doesn't. He really is the Matt Moore of coaching. (so far, anyway...)

Honestly I don't see anything in this coaching staff that makes me think they're capable of coaching the Panthers to regular 11-5 or 12-4 seasons.

This is the same trap we fell into last year. Mediocre all year, then end the season strong, causing people to get excited and say "Ok, playoffs next year!"

If Rivera is still here next year and it takes until week 11 to start playing well after we're mathmatically eliminated, I won't care whether he's fired or not, I'll probably lose interest in watching football.

I know a lot of you like to do the popular thing and hop on the "fire Rivera" bandwagon but I have never heard of a coach being fired after just two seasons. To me, that is crazy. Every coach deserves at least three seasons in my opinion. We started out slow this season. I think that had more to do with assistant coaches trying to think to much and asking players to do things that are way too complicated or they were too obvious for opposing teams. We are finally clicking on offense now that the coaches figured out how to get the most out of our players. Our defense was pretty bad until Rivera took over primary control over it and put players like Hardy's butts on the line if they didn't step up their play. They clearly have responded. We have third stringers that are prepared and ready to be thrown into action at any given time and that says a lot about the coaching. We have to remember this is Rivera's first HC gig and it has taken him a while to figure that out. I think we coaches have finally figured out how to get the best of of this team and I would love to see that roll over into next season. We are right on the cusp of being a great team and hiring a new staff now could just set us back again. They will get rid of players and bring in new players. Also try to install a whole new system. Everyone is just getting comfortable with the system we got and it is really looking good on the field. It would be ridiculous.

Kudos on the balls you have to post this.How many heads have people on the forum wanted to see on the chopping block this season? No doubt allowing the read option to be our base offense was a serious mistake but this is a guy that was a DC so it will take time for him to refine his game management skills.I was most disappointed in the KC lost but I say lets look at it at the end of the season.There is just as much risk in hiring another coach and implementing a new offense and defense.

Rivera loses in a more entertaining fashion..Clausen Fox Davidson was getting me pretty close to suicide watch on Sundays..as I had to torture myself to watch every snap..bc dammit I love this team!

I'm not falling for this. I'm telling you guys Rivera is fools gold. He is Norv Turner esque. The team starts off slow and incompetent and we lose hella games. We only start winning when it doesn't matter. That is mediocre at it's finest. If i'm JR I'm asking Rivera one question. Where the hell was this type of play at the beginning of the season? Then after that I would tell him to get the hell out.

People miss the little things Rivera screws up. Like not taking Newton and other starters out in the middle of the 3rd when the game was won. If Newton, Smith, or Dwill would have got hurt it would have been a huge issue.

I said once and I'll say it again, Rivera either needs to go be a defensive coordinator elsewhere, or take the head coaching job at CAL.

He's just not the right head coach for this team.

Keep in mind, Rivera has also been rebuilding this team and finding the right guys for his system. That takes time. Especially when you are held to some big money veterans who are getting up there in age or are more susceptible to injury. I think if he's given one more draft and a couple of FA transactions he'll have pretty much built up his own team, especially if we have the same quality of a draft as we just had.

I'm not denying Rivera has made some questionable calls and we all know how many games we 'should have won'. Remember though, Cam wasn't playing at the level he is right now all year. His decision making has been a huge difference in our success on offense, along with Stewart being out to injury, and Chud going back to his previous play calling. The defense has taken some time to gel and it took some time to get everyone into their correct positions. There isn't a way to blame just one person for our woes this year. It was seriously a team effort.

We're paying Rivera for another two years whether he stays with us or not. His staff and our players have gone through hell this year and haven't crumbled yet. That matters. We're finally replenishing this team with talent, we're learning and gaining experience in a system and it is starting to pay off. We're turning Rivera into a head coach and he's going to do it for us.
