Yasinkas: NFC South QB rankings

Recommended Posts

Brees was not a very good QB his first two years...that I can assure you. I think his passer rating was in the 70's and his third year in the 60's IIRC....

I have not said, and will not say that Brees is not a good QB, what I will say is that Brees is overrated in the media. Much like Ryan, Cutler, Favre, and Flacco.

How many QBs are good in their 1st two years? How is that relavent to today anyway?

It is relevant because Duece whoever was saying that he did not think that Drew was "pretty bad" his first few years in the league. I was correcting him.

And P.S. I am not a Jake hater or lover, I am very aware of what we have at the QB position.

Brees can rack up the yards, and FF points for sure, I just do not think that he is a top 5 QB like everyone in the media tries to tell us. And I base my QB's on their ability to WIN, not just throw for 5K yards.

He had one year where his passer rating was in the 70s and one year (with 11 starts.. i am guessing he got pulled) where it was in the 60s.

He had one year where it was just below 90 (89.2) and one year where it was over 100.

Who knew.. a QB struggling in his first two years in the league... Peyton Manning came out firing on all cylinders too (sarcasm).

How can you even put Brees in the same category as Ryan, Cutler, Favre (2009 Favre), and Flacco? How? He was the best quarterback in the league last year. Come on now!!!!!

p.s. you do NOT recall correctly.

Check out his 4 years as a charger. year 1: 76 passer rating, year 2: 67 passer rating, year 3: 104 passer rating (pro bowl), year 4: 89 passer rating.

"Pretty bad" isn't how I would describe his career as a Charger.

Here, let me CORRECT you... you said Drew was "pretty bad" in his Charger years. That simply isn't true. Unless a passer rating in the mid 80s and 79-53 TD-INT ratio is "pretty bad"... not to mention a pro bowl selection.

His first two years as a starter were "pretty bad"... just like most QBs... his 3rd year and beyond as a starter have been superb.

Winning takes more than just quarterback play. Brees had 34 TDs 17 INTs.. over 5,000 yards. Top 3 in just about every category. There were numerous games where Brees brought the team back in the 4th quarter only to see the lead go bye bye after our defense or kicking game faltered (Vikings, Broncos, Bears, Panthers, Bucs (game 2) ). We lost 6 games by a combined 18 points.

Name 5 QBs that are individually better than Drew Brees. The Saints had 18 players on IR by the end of the year. They had a terrible defense and a lack of a running game. We finished 8-8... 6 losses by an average of 3 points.

How does that make Drew Brees overrated? Is Dan Marino also overrated?

Is Trent Dilfer underrated?

If your just going by wins, I guess Rex Grossman was the Best QB in the NFC in 06 right? We all know where that got him.... Chicago got to the Superbowl riding their defense. But does that make Resx Grossman the best QB in the league? Would yall have taken Rex over Delhomme in 07 because Grossman had more wins the previous year?

I put him in that category because I think that Brees is overrated and overblown by the media, much like the QB's that I mentioned. Brees is better than they are, no doubt, but that is not what I was referring to.

Brees got much better after the Chargers selected Rivers, his third year there, he was a good qb. But his first two stunk to high heaven....much like most rookie and second year qb's.

And he was not the best QB in the league last season.

It isn't simply the 4th Q, it's late and close where he suffers.

2008:

10 games, 78.3 QBR, 36-60 for 60% comp, 458 yards, 4 tds 4 ints. That's almost 20 pts below his 2008 QBR. His career late & close QBR is about 7 pts lower than his career QBR.

Yeah but most of those interceptions came because he was forced to throw because our fuging defense was getting beat like it stole something. We couldnt run the ball because well we really didnt have a healthy running back and the coach refused to commit to the run anyway. Any time a Qb has to throw as many times as Brees did they are going to have interceptions. There were several games like the Broncos game where Brees brought us back from a huge deficit, only for the game to be lost by a missed FG or some blatent mistake by our defense. Dude Brees is the best QB in the NFC S and its not even close. About the only thing I can really fault him for is nearly killing his recievers. Yeah he doesnt like to take a hit, and he has been known to set a reciever up for a shalacking, but Im not sure how much of that is Brees as much as it is Paytons coaching style and playcalling. I agree with the assessment that Ryan could be the best in the future, he showed promise last year, and I could see him unseating Brees in a couple of years, but not now. As for the Panthers, you guys need to find someone to take the reins after Jake soon or you are gonna be in trouble.

If you don't have to make things up, that's called a fact.

Your examples of people being unrealistic in this thread are?

What I said was: ''lol at panther fans making themselves feel better about Jake.'' The people in the thread that are pinning the Saints 4th Q struggles 100% on Brees are doing that.

Matt Ryan is overblown by the media.

Drew Brees was within 14 yards of breaking the ALL-TIME single season record for yards in a season... that is one of those "BIG" records

He is one of two people in the history of the game to throw for over 5000... yet he still gets less media attention than Tony Romo and Matt Ryan. Overrated and overblown? nahhh
