Yasinkas: NFC South QB rankings

Recommended Posts

I think Brees is a very good QB....one of the top in the league right now.

However, his stats are over-rated. He is in a pass happy offense....thus, his stats will be inflated.

Put him on a run first team and he will have nowhere near the same yards, completions, etc. Does not make his worse or better, just changes the stats.

This is exactly why stats cannot be used in measuring top QB's.

Your correct. I still choose Jake over Bree's just for the simple fact I like Jake better. I can't help that I believe Bree's is a Douche bag.

@Fireball

Well, if it's "loserish" for a someone to be into the NFL so much that they breathe and sleep it, then you have a whole helluva lot of loserish people in the Huddle (myself included).

You know, this is the first time I heard about that glove thing in regards to Warner (maybe you DO put too much time into the NFL. Nah, that's akin to blasphemy). For some reason this makes me think of David Carr (Glove vs. anti-glove. There are compelling arguments for both).

I would definitely vote for Warner to be a HOFER. At this point, I can't say that for any QB that's ever played in the NFC South).

I still think Warner needs another couple years at a high level because his main issue is the amount of games he has played IMO. Greatness over TIME. He has had a pretty good showing in his playoff games to boot. His playoff history shouldn't sink him at all even if he doesn't play another snap of playoff football.

I am not sure why Carr decided to wear gloves. I think that may have started his last year in Houston. He was very averse to having his mechanics tinkered with/experimented with though, which was a bit of a turnoff to me right away. If you don't want to at least try to get better in whatever way, I don't want you on my team. As it turns out, that was just the tip of the iceberg with him.

Nobody that I can see is saying he isn't a good/very good QB right now. I don't think anyone is disputing his #1 ranking in the division. Saints fans are merely arguing he should be higher ranked NFL wise than some of us feel he should be. Just because we don't think he is the best in the NFL or elite doesn't mean we aren't giving him his due IMO.

To that end, it's also shortsighted not to look at the whole picture. Didn't he lead the league in pick sixes in 2007? I can't remember the last time Brady threw a pick six (or Jake for that matter, I think it was 2005 actually). He turns the ball over more (fumbles lost and INTs) than Brady or Manning do. He pretty much always has and still does. That's one reason I can't call him "elite".

DING DING DING...

I nor you have said that he is not far and away the best QB in NFCS. All I have said is that I do not think that he is "elite" or the best QB in the league, by my standards.

All I have said is that there are 4-5-6-7 or so QB's that are in the league that I would probably rather have leading my team. For goodness sakes there are probably 10+ QB's that I would take over Jake...I think..I would need to look into that a little more.

See I rule out people for different reasons than other people might. Not just skill alone. I am not saying I am RIGHT, that's just the way I think. For example, if someone who was at worst second in the NFL in skill level, P. Manning, were on this team, he would be costing 21 mil in cap hit this year. Pep will cost 17 mil. Something would have to give. Plus I would rather spend more $$ on defense than take a 21 million cap hit for one offensive player. Do we know how Manning would play on a team without gobs of skill position players? No. Would we want to spend a 21 mil cap hit to find out? Do I think Manning's salary/cap hit and the subsequent roster moves needed to accommodate it would equal a chance for more SB wins than building a great defense and having an avg/above avg QB? No I do not.

Same way here. But I do not put quite as much emphasis on cap numbers, but put a ton on moxie and team play. Manning 2 is actually a better teammate than his brother, but nearly as good of a skill set.

Be embarrassed, Jake has a better chance at winning a Superbowl than Bree's. They are also two totally different Quarterbacks in two different Offenses.

Trent Dilfer won a SB, doesn't mean he's better than Marino. Also, you have no clue until the season is underway to which team has a batter shot at the SB.

You're also a Steelers fan. Imma say Bradshaw and Roethlisberger. :P

YARDS as a measure of QBs (or offenses or defenses in general) don't really impress me by themselves. Maybe it is because I watched Bledsoe too much.

What does?

Take your pick because Brees is essentially top 2-3 in every category...
