Josh Norman in the doghouse

Norman may go the way of McClain if he don't get his poo together. I don't understand how people think this a Rivera issue. Takes more than draft hype and training camp highlights to cut it on the field on sundays. The guy has been a major disappointment.

How the hell is a 5th round DB, that's playing at a level comparable (better than some) to all the top drafted CBs, disapointing!? Damn near EVERY rookie CB in NFL history has struggled, their first season.

I wouldn't consider him a disappointment given where we drafted him

Now if we went after Fleming/Bolden in the 4th or Hosley/Hayward earlier, we could be in a way more comfy situation. Probably wouldn't have Adams or Amini but that wouldn't be so bad. :)

No use in looking back but I really thought we should have capitalized on this past drafts deep CB class.

Why does everything have to be taken to the extremes with some of you guys? It's either "he's a baller, Rivera fuging blows!!!11!1!1" or it's, "he sucks and is a major dissappointment."

Maybe he hasn't developed as well as the staff had hoped, maybe the staff feels like they don't have the leeway to be starting bad players to see how they do, or maybe it's Rivera teaching Norman a lesson because he thought he'd arrived by being a starter already and Rivera is showing him that there are plenty of other guys to look at if he isn't cutting it.

Not everything is so black and white.

He isn't playing at a level of cornerbacks drafted before him. His completion percentages, which were never really impressive, have gone up and was up over 80% the weeks leading up to the Falcons game.

I expected him to progress through the season, and Rivera's actions show that he isn't doing what is asked.

Look at the completion percentage of guys like Gilmore, Hayward, or even a guy drafted way after him like Dennard. Though their completion percentages are all over the place they aren't as consistently high as our guy has been. I'm not giving up on him, but he has to improve and yes he has been a disappointment considering the fact he was tagged as the steal of the draft and a ball hawking corner. He's looked more like a 5th round corner thats not ready to start than the guy who is ready to play 100% of the snaps at his position.

The problem with Norman is that he either isn't being taught properly, or he's not absorbing the information. Here is one example of what I mean:

Ok Norman is at the top of the screen. He needs to make a decision, is he going to defend the slant or the fade? Any other route is less of a problem. Look at where the WR is lined up, and look at what hash mark the ball is on. The WR is split way outside the numbers, creating more room for a slant, and not much for a fade. I'm thinking slant. 2nd and goal situation against their #1. Slant route coming. Take away the slant, and if he runs something else you can try to recover. Take an inside shade, and mug the hell out of him, fight him. Or he can do some BS and we can lose to KC.

LOL @ all the Norman haters coming out of the woodwork now that Rivera put him on the bench for no good reason other than Rivera being Rivera (See David Gettis). Anyone remember the article earlier in the year showing how he was ranking with or above first round corners in tackles and passes defensed? Now all of a sudden he sucks? LOL.

I seriously question some people's ability to evaluate talent or understand the game of football. He's giving too much cushion? Then coach him up and watch him take to it. If he refuses, bench him. But to bench him for that reason alone, that's doing nothing but destroying his confidence. Rivera is an idiot. Look at Armanti being active every week over Gettis and tell me Rivera has a reason for what he is doing. Look at what he did to Dangelo and how he treated him in the process and tell me he is a legitimate head coach in the NFL.

Norman should've been coached up and still starting. Rivera is an idiot.

Rivera continues benching players who don't deserve to be benched.

asinine comment, Rivera is not going to bench someone because he just feels like it, that only happens in angry fanboy dreams. Rivera is coaching for his Job this season, next and any possible future HC Jobs if he thinks he's the best man for the Job he would be out there, since he's not IMO he must not be.

and Considering IMO there isn't a single NFL starter Quality CB on the team not named Gamble, what do I care that he's benching a player that would be a Nickel back best case on any other team?

It's like the idiots that were saying the Joe Adams benching was killing us, really? the Guy has 1 primary responsibility out there and that is protect the ball and he fumbles twice in a single game? I don't care if he ever sees the field again you can't do that in the NFL and expect to start especially when you are a unproven rookie.
