NFL article on Thomas Davis (Comeback POTY) by Gil Brandt

Comeback Player of the Year: Thomas Davis, LB, Carolina Panthers

Davis won't win this award, which, in reality, I think should go to either Peterson or Manning. But I had a tough time choosing between the two, so I thought I'd take this opportunity to call attention to Davis, whose story is one of the most compelling in the NFL. The veteran defender had gone through an extremely trying few years, tearing his anterior cruciate ligament three times and playing in just nine games from 2009 to 2011; he did not play a single game in 2010. This season, he's played in all but one of the Panthers' games, racking up 81 tackles (the second-most on the team) and one interception. To miss that much time, and go through that many health issues, and still be able play at that kind of level, is really something.

National recognition! We all love you TD and in our hearts as well as others you deserve this award no matter the outcome.

Gil Brandt is my favorite guy in the nfl media along with Greg Cosell. Anyways, coming back this strong from 3 ACLs is just as robotic as AP's comeback IMO. If TD plays at this level for a few more years I really think in all honesty there should be an in-house award or something of that dedicated in his name. Keep pounding Davis!

Not a bad idea... the "Sam Mills Keep Pounding" trophy? Like a small sledgehammer or something, that would be kind of cool.

Let all the players on the team vote on that one, for the guy they felt was the toughest, most dedicated player that year. I'd think that would mean something, coming from teammates versus fans or media.

the Funniest part of that whole article is in the comments section with the Redskins and Colts fans arguing over who should be ROTY, I don't agree with his choice of luck, if you look at wins yeah it looks nice, but once you look at who they beat and you wonder if the Panthers even with as bad as they have played this year could still probably have been worse case 10-3 at this point playing that schedule -_-

Cosell is good. One of my favorites also.

TD makes every Georgia Bulldog fan proud. Glad to see the attention he is getting but trust me, he could not care less about stuff like that. Davis answers to a higher calling and he really walks the walk...and lays the lumber.

His story may be Sam Mills like (to a lesser extent) one day in Panther lore. Inspirational to everyone around him. Gotta love TD.

I don't think Peterson should get it. Honestly, he missed one game. I know his rehab and comeback are unheard of in the modern era, but still.... Missed one game.

Like 2005 when Smitty came back after missing all but 50 minutes of 2004. The award went to Tedy B from the Patriots. He was injured early in the season and came back halfway through the season and somehow won the award.

I just think the award should be reserved for guys who missed a significant chunk of time and came back to play at a high level. Peyton and TD58 are the only two off the top of my head who should be mentioned.

If the MVP award goes to Peyton, I think Comeback should go to TD. But we all know that won't happen.
