Charlottesville, VA

Last minute decided to go to a concert in Charlottesville, VA this weekend. Is anyone familiar with this area? The concert is at the John Paul Jones Arena.

Good places to eat?

Hotels to stay, last minute...even campsites?

Places to see/go?

I'm not familiar with this area at all, but thought someone might be.

Thanks for the info.

I grew up in Charlottesville. A lot has changed since I lived there. In fact the area has really gone downhill from the small artsy community I left when I was 13 (When the Urban Outfitters moved in, it sounded the death knell of C-Ville), and most of the stuff I knew around campus has been bulldozed to make room for a Chick Fil A and a Bonefish Grill. But I can definitely lend some advice.

Christian's Pizza was hands down, the best pizza I've ever had in my life, and that includes Italy. I should note that I went there earlier this year, and it wasn't as good, but it's still head and shoulders over every other option and a must have. If they have it, get any of their veggie loaded sicilian deep dish slices. They absolutely do it right, abour 3/4" of dough, and 2" of toppings. It's located in the downtown mall (like almost everything else worth seeing and doing).

The Mud House makes a damned good cup of coffee.

Not sure it's still around, but ther used to be a place there called "The Inn" that made amazing breakfast food. If it's there, get the Pigs n' a Blanket.

The Commonwealth Restaurant and SkyBar was a welcome addition the last time I was in town, but not sure how fun a Sky Bar will be in the thick of December.

And above all else, and this is not optional; You must visit Spudnuts.

Yes, this dinky, disgusting looking doughnut shop that looks like a highway rest area from the 1960s. Spudnuts makes the best doughnuts you will ever have in your life. But I warn you, if you are a man who enjoys his doughnuts, this will ruin you from Krispy Kreme for life. It may even make you forget about Britt's.

Thanks a lot man! Will be spending most of the days around there, so I will certainly check out these spots. Probably staying about 20 minutes away in Crozet. We decided to camp, and that seemed to be the closest reputable spot.

    • I like that a lot; Ware from Troy and also Khalil Mack who played at University of Buffalo
    • I remember the Huddle consensus over the course of last season and the previous one. Lots of Bryce is a bust, we should've drafted a 4th slot WR, should've kept Wilks, should've kept an armless Cam, etc etc. So... yea... already thought about that. I wouldn't trust the Huddle to detail my car, let alone run a multi-billion dollar professional sports team. 😛
    • bold prediction, I think Mike Green will be the best pass rusher in this class, and thats even with abdul carter.  He reminds me of demarcus ware, not just in size and prowess, but even coming from a Sunbelt school (Ware from Troy, Green from Marshall).  I think he is passionate about the sport where I think Carter as the physical freak might not have the heart.  Thats the guy Im sold on and am gonna hammer the table for, I know he's not projected 8, but he is projected like 12-13, so if a slide back can happen and we still get the guy I want, I'm 100% on board. All that said, it takes 2 to tango, I think the Cowboys are the tango-er.  IMO theres a VERY good shot that Jeanty is available at 8.  Why does that matter?  Not only do the cowboys NEED a runningback (dak sucks without a run game), but MORE importantly, gee where did Jeanty play in high school.....Frisco TX, literally Dallas Metro.  Soo, RB is a position of need and the best RB and most blue chip draft selection that  could improve the offense immensly played IN dallas metro AND will be in range for them to move up and pick?  Do ya think Jerry Jones is gonna just say no to the Jersey Sales?  Jerry might have sexually assaulted a woman and attempted to prevent black people from going to school, but he's no idiot (he is).  IMO, we get a good enough package, prlly their first and third,  maybe a conditional later and we move to 12.  We get Green, they get Jeanty, everbuddy happy.
