(Poll) Should Rivera stay if we go 7-9

Voted no, but that could change.

My worry isn't Rivera per se, it's the fact that I literally can't name any other coach out there that I would really believe in besides David Shaw, and if that's the case we could let go of Rivera after only two years only to replace him with someone even less competent. I think those that want Rivera gone, including myself, sometime forget that it's not a guarentee that the next coach is any better.

Cowher? meh. Zimmer? meh. Clements? Meh. Horton? Though i like still, meh. Kelly? high risk/high reward. Gruden? meh. etc...

I get both sides of the coin. But how can you fire a coach after two years? two years?

I know it sounds like I want to keep him, I don't, it's just I don't think it's a no brainer decision like some.

I know I'm stretching with this comparision, but i get the feeling that Rivera is our Doug Collins and we have yet to find our Phil Jackson and that's the reason i voted no...for now.

Excellent point. Yet my big thing is getting a coach that will develop Cam. I know for sure Rivera won't be able to do that. If we can get a coach that is old school in QB play, that would be awesome. Cam needs to become his own player, and for that he needs the skills of a surgeon when it comes to defenses. To me that is the final piece missing in his game. Once he have that, he will evolve into the greatest QB in the history of the game. Teams rally behind that kind of thing. So even if we get an average coach who can develop QBs, that is all we really need.

If we can get a guy like David Shaw, who has that ability and more, I believe our team could become legendary. Yet like I said, just give me a coach who can teach QB mechanics and anticipation.

Umm to me a coach needs more than 2 seasons. That being said I have seen us loose too many games because of the Coach. So basically it boils down to "Is the coach we are bringing in a known significant upgrade to Rivera?" If you can't answer that question with a 100% Yes.... Then against my better judgement give him another shot.

I've stated my opinion on this topic to the point of not wanting to again....if that makes sense. If we finish 7-9 and continue to show steady growth and improvement, not just from a performance standpoint, but from a coaching standpoint - ie not wasting fuging timeouts, because you can't get a goddamn play call in, like four times a game. Then I won't be necessarily upset if he's retained.

Does that mean that I want him to be kept? Not really, I think we can do better, but if we finish strong, like I said, I wouldn't be overly upset at the decision. It would be the new GM's first major decision and, if we are going to give him a chance, we will have to have faith in that initial decision.

In all honesty- this last win was the only real notable one of his career- sorry but he just isn't cut out to be a head coach at the moment. Maybe next time he gets his shot (if he does) he will be better prepared

I firmly believe a coaching change this offseason would be warranted if the players gave up and this team implodes through the end of the year. I'm surprised they haven't shown any signs of giving up. Atlanta may have been a soft 11-1 team, but what I saw yesterday from a skeleton crew on D was pretty damn impressive. Rivera is slowly becoming someone who could lead this team. I think he's had a tough start, but not been given the time to settle in. I'd really hate to see a whole new staff next year. That will put us back for at least an entire additional year, if not two. Make the wrong decision on a new HC? You'll be staring at Cam's contract renewal with virtually no positive traction under his feet.

The guy has won 1 game against a good team...It took him over 20 games to do it. You really want him to continue to coach this team? He is terrible and has no clue what is going on.

I thought MAYBE if he could get the team to .500, it should be discussed. But the team has lost too many games they should have won. He's gone. He might even find success elsewhere as a coordinator, but it won't be in Carolina.

His team has gone 2-2 while his QB has protected the ball and made tons of plays.

I can't credit him for Cam's recent play. The game management is still terrible, Cam's just offsetting it. They use more idiot TOs than anyone. Just stupid mistakes. When you play close games, having all your TOs is an advantage. It's strategic. Good teams don't blow TOs often.

As for beating an 11-1 team, well Atlanta was on the field for what, 7 minutes in the first half? More so because of the offense staying on the field. I'm not bashing the defense, but was anyone extremely confident before the TD interception? They'd let up two scores and were being attacked again. Nice revenge that they held on, I'll give them that.

The Ravens have high standards and won't accept mediocrity. Why should we expect less?
