Jason Carter Sighting-- Per Gantt

I know it has been said that Carter has one of the best throwing arms on the team, would he be a reliable option out of the wildcat formation? It could be an interesting change of pace.

That is an interesting idea. I would give it a shot if he were on the active roster.

If he hadn't been injured I expect Carter would have made the roster last year. If he is fully recovered and plays even better than last year in preseason I don't know why we wouldn't keep him. We should be able to keep Goodson as our Goings replacement. If Robinson takes Jone's spot that still leaves Hackett's spot. There will be intense competition for it but Carter has to be a good candidate.

Technically, Dwayne Jarrett took Hackett's spot on the gameday roster.

As for 53 Man roster, I could see that. Really though, he didn't look all that great in preseason last year either, and you have to admit, that's realer competition than Training Camp.

pretty much. i consider last year to be a competition for that spot between hacket and jarrett and jarrett won.

the main competition is going to be for those 4th and 5th spots...i expect it will be two people who can be solid returners and the season will be a tryout for those as well. only one will be active per game. gonna be just like hackett/jarrett.

How many WR do we usually carry on the roster?

5 with 4 active on gameday Smith, Moose, Jarrett, Robinson.... who else? I would imagine that Carter and Monk are two of the front runners for the remaining spot or spots.

I think Carter has a pretty good shot at making the team as the #5 WR. His kick return talent is similar to Robinson/Jones. He shows lots of promise as a reciever. You want your last reserve guy to be able to do both.

Robinson is recovering from a knee injury and if he's back to full speed, he's the #4 WR hands down IMO. As an aside, did you know that "slow" Mark Jones ran a 4.39 40 yd dash at his pro day before the Bucs drafted him? He injured his knee as a pro before he earned the "slow" moniker. It took 2 years from the injury for him to return to form. I don't think he was as slow as everybody seemed to think he was. The same thing could apply the either Jones or Carter, they may need more time to return to full strength. We'll see once camp starts. I know both Robinson and Carter say they're recovered, but you never really know until you put pads on and start hitting people (and being hit). Luckily (it's not really luck at all), we have other good options for returner/WR:

Mike Goodson - versatile enough to be a kick returner, #3 RB and a #4 WR, I like this pick more and more, hope he pans out

Kenneth Moore - showed good return skills at WF, has had a year to mature

Larry Beavers - paid one of the highest signing bonuses for an undrafted FA

Jason Chery - Robinson/Carter clone, fast w/good hands and quickness, as yet undeveloped

Jamaal Lee - returner only, needs a ton of work to be effective as a RB

This is a lot more return talent than in seasons past. We have a bunch of guys with explosive speed and quickness.

Being able to contribute on ST is key to making the roster. Monk has a big body, but unless he can figure out how to contribute in other areas, I don't think he makes the team. We already have two big bodied WRs who don't play special teams ahead of him.

this is true...but in his DEF nobody outside the 1st team OFF looked good in preseason last year.
