Newton's Sophomore Slump - another look

CRA

Recommended Posts

Newton has a 58.2 accuracy which is one of the lower in the league. Even when you take away hit throws batted passes and drops (as Pff does with all the Qbs) he still ranked near the bottom. Certainley there are other factors and I'm sure well see improvement.

But he is pretty inaccurate at this point in time. There is nothing wrong with saying that.

How accurate is Luck Staffiord and Bradford without their sensational go to receivers? I guess if the so called pros in the media harp endlessly about. Cam and his so called inaccuracies, it's okay spend hours harping on them as if he is expected to throw a few bad ones.

I guess QBs like Cam have to be five times better than than the chosen QBs in order to be seen as worthy. How sad.

Yep, Luck has 6 wins with at least one INT and a couple with multiple. Cam must play flawless to escape with a win and those wins usually require big numbers from him.

And when he does NOT accomplish perfection, he's the reason we lost, he's not a winner, he's not "clutch", yadda yadda yadda...

No disagreement there. Certainley the fact that we feature deeper passing contributes more then say a west coast. However a 58 percent is still low regardless of scheme. Newton has attempted 53 pass plays over 20 yards. Even if you take that away, it's still low.

The fact that its not as important in this offence, does not make my statement any less true.

Both John Elway and Dan Marino had CAREER completion %'s of 58% or less.

As for your rankings, I don't know why you posted that, it's not relevant to my point on Newton accuracy. I'm certainley not arguing that Newton hasn't been successfull this year.

it is relevant to the point our QB produces more yards, more TDs, and less turnovers than the majority of teams in the NFL have gotten from the QB position.....meaning his lack of accuracy at times isn't as big of an issues as it may seem on face value.

He is young. If he was more accurate at this stage in top of what he does....he legitimately would then be a top 5 QB out of the gate.....which is unrealstic.

I'm not arguing about media hypocrisy. I'm arguing about wether the statement Newton is inaccurate is true. And signs point to yes. Wether or not the media is unfair has nothing to do with my argument.

The point being discussed is wether newton is currently a overall accurate Qb. Yards, Td's etc not does help in that specific discussion wether you believe he is or not. So I don't see how it's relevant.

And my point was....the info I supplied shows how focusing on his accuracy isn't as big of an issue as it may seem on face value.

Something to work in yes as he could be more accurate.....but if he was more accurate his production would be off the charts ( elite in your prime type stuff ).....and that isn't realistic for him right now

I have no idea what the numbers are but there have been some drops that would really pad Cam's numbers. Murphy had some big downfield drops early in the season and Lafell had the most egregious one against Kansas City. Those weren't accuracy problems. Maybe other QBs had just as many drops, It would be difficult to compare without watching all the tape. We all know Cam has a little Randy Johnson in him with the wild pitch but the pundits are so quick to dismiss his 700 yards on the ground. That is a legit contribution to the offense. Also we don't really have a true home run threat at wide out. Steve is great for us but he doesn't break tackles the way he used to. Lafell gets caught and Cam never seems to be on the same page with Murphy. The one true bomb pass I remember this year was to Armanti (lol) who got caught.

Makes you wonder what they'll say for rg3 soph slump...

Sure they'll find an excuse for everything

It's a little funny right now because if you look at the stats for RG3 vs. Cam it's:

2906 yards, 18TDs, 4INTs, 748 rushing yards, 6TDs - RGIII

3220 yard, 16TDs, 10INTs, 640 rushing yards, 7TDs - Cam

The other aspect of this is that in Cam's 29 games since he has been here he hasn't been injured because he's big and he doesn't take hits. RGIII has been injured what...twice since he started in Washington? He's not durable enough to play the way he wants.

In the end Cam will be the better QB especially when the right coach gets in here.

A point I never disagreed with. Saying he's in inaccurate doesn't mean he doesnt do alot to make up a lot for it. Or that its a dire issue. But that doesn't mean it isn't ( though one Im sure he'll remedy )a issue.

yes, it is comical how the fact he leads us in rushing each week is dismissed.

Cam is not having a slump, we just aren't winning so the media likes to use the abused term. I would argue Cam is continuing a 4th qtr issue along with 90% of the team.

Biggest 4th q issue is in the 4th q....Ron has been so safe and scared he makes John Fox look like a wild maniac.
