What are the chances of getting Bill Cowher

slim to none. he's been out of football a while and the game has changed significantly since he was winning football games. the only way i could see it happening is if, one, he demonstrates adaptability with his fundamental philosophies and, two, the offensive coordinator is innovative (but not full retard a la chudz) and given near-full command of his guys and playcalling while cowher calls defense. that's a symbiosis i'd be comfortable with, but i don't see cowher going for it.

that's right i said symbiosis.

This is why I posted the thread, thanks for the answer

JR isn't shy to pay top coaches top money. He paid Seifert pretty damn well and then he made old Foxy the highest paid head coach in the NFL at the time.

JR will shell out the cash if he deems it necessary, those who say otherwise are morons. The only thing that JR is wont to do, is being hesitant to fire coaches before their contracts are up because of the idea that he's still paying them while they aren't part of the team. That fan assumed rational realistically only stems from Fox's situation and is, by no means, a recurring theme - so I don't really buy much into it either.

The long and short of it is that JR, in my opinion, isn't shy to dole out the cash for a top coach when he feels it's the best case scenario.

Forgot to list my reason for my above post.

It was basically calling anyone that uses the argument "JR won't pay for soandso coach because he's cheap!!", is a damned idiot.

Post-Seifert, I'm not so sure the argument is that dumb. Yeah, Fox ended up being at the top of the HC payscale, but he didn't start off being paid that well. It was only after he demonstrated success that JR paid him. If JR wants to sign a veteran coach in the league that's had success in the past, he's going to have to pay big right off the bat, and I'm not sure JR is ready to do that.

We've only had two coaches post Seifert, neither of which were veteran coaches when signed. That's not exactly a large enough sample size to denote a trend.

This guy is a dinosaur. Why do people want him?

I liked what he did in pitsburgh and think he's a better option than a lot of coaches.. I think he could bring some legit football to the franchise.

Just my thoughts, but there's a lot of other coaches I'd like as well.

I was genuinely curious about the chances of getting him, my wanting him isnt even why I asked. So a lot of you quit your bitching, and the rest of you, thanks for the real answers.

Yep. It doesn't even have to be Cowher that the Panthers need to succeed.

The Panthers need a Leader of Men. Someone the players on this roster will play for on Sundays.

We don't need a spread offense on extra point tries. We dont need anymore read option bullshit either.

We need to play physical and impose our will on the other guy in the 4th quarter and win games.

Right now we're the bitches getting our asses handed to us during and at end of games and it's been going on for years.

How do cure this?

Play physical.
