Charlotte is the worst sports town in the galaxy

Where is your basis for this statement? If anything its that a large portion of the fan base are UNC fans and everyone knows that UNC fans are fair weather fans.

My basis is living in Raleigh for 30+ years and dealing with their constant self loathing, unrealistic expectations of what their sports teams should be, a constant feeling of dread that anything good will either collapse or go away, and their unhealthy obsession with schools other than their own because of their own insecurities.

Want proof. NC State just hired a wonderful football coach, yet if you go to there message board PackPride there is a thread that is 36 PAGES about an interview UNC coach Larry Fedora never had and a thread about UNC's associate AD for compliance resigning that has nothing to do with the recent NCAA inquiry has reached 44 PAGES.

The thread about their great new coach and staff. 6 pages.

You may be right about UNC fans. They may be fair weather fans. But State fans complain, bitch, and moan even in fair weather. That is why they fire a successful basketball coach (Sendek) and successful football coach (O'Brien). They always feel like it is bad weather. But, instead if lifting their programs up, they just wish ill will on other programs so they can be lowered to their level.

It is a sad existence really.

No greater example than the crowd erupting in cheers when JR Smith hit the game winner last night against our Bobcats.

Just embarrassing.

Did the Hornets have the same problem or did people turn out for the home team back in the glory days? I was a big Hornets fan back in the day and after they moved, I quit watching NBA.

(Never saw them play in person except for a preseason exhibition game in Richmond.)

The pitfalls of NC being such a desireable place to live. It's a double edged sword. On one hand, we have all these transplants and as the saying goes "you can take the steelers fan out of his crappy Pennsylvania town, but you can't take the crappy Pennsylvania town out of the steelers fan, or something like that".

Yep, no matter where you go, there's a Steelers bar.

For a long time, Charlotte has a Buffalo Bills bar and a Cleveland Browns bar as well!

But SCP has to realize. That until the Pathers came to town, the majority of the football fans here, were Falcons, Dolphins or Redskin fans.

And beng that Charlotte has a big influx from people outside the region, (thank you banks?) They have their own favorite teams.

I'm an Indianapolis Colts fan, have been ever since they moved from Balitmore. I'll be a Colts fan until the day I die. (Hopefully not for a long time.) Yes, I post here, but I try and be neutral and post what I think is the truth without rose colored glasses. (My perception is reality!)

Since you try to be fair will you admit that Andrew Luck can't hold Cam Newton's nutsack??? ;)

I was in the first row behind the press. The night that Reggie Miller went lights out on the Charlotte Hornets! Reggie was hitting on everything he threw near the basket!

Finally, the Hive croud got into it and started yelling, REGGIE, REGGIE! Everytime the Pacers got the ball!

Yea, right! One more win this season and the Colts equal the Panthers wins last year and this year! (Of course the NFL season isn't over.) Colts still have to play Texas twice!

Realisticly, we will have to see how the season ends up. That's why they play the games.

Colts have a shot at makng the post season, right now. The Panthers can make the post season. (If EVERY other teams tanks!)

If it weren't for Peyton Manning probably winning his 5th MVP Title, I'd say that Andrew Luck would have a chance of winning the ROY & MVP titles! (An outside chance at the MVP Title!)

The difference between our fairweather fans and other teams' is fairweather Panthers fans diss the team when they're down just for the hell of it. Same with the Bobcats. And it doesn't really matter if they turn it around, short of a championship many Charlotteans default to "The Panthers suck" even when they don't actually know anything about the team.

Instead of just not caring we have a large fanbase of vocal haters who only support the team when they win.

Okay, gotta jump in here (told myself I wouldn't post until after the RR firing which should be around 10:00 am monday after we loose to NO later in the month..but here goes). Transplant or no transplant the key is a consistant WINNER, which is the corner stone of every band wagoneer. See Pittsburg. Most azzhole steeler fans could not find Pittsburg on a map or tell you what the 3 stars in the logo mean. Atlanta is a great example. Since I'm older than most of you, I remember back when the Falcons played in Fulton Co. stadium and they SUCKED. Hell, they fired the only decent coach they ever had that took them to the playoffs (where they lost of course...a guy named Leeman Bennett) The Falcons, first owned by Rankin Smith was supposed to be the "Southeast's" team..yeah right. And now..because they are WINNING, all these "die-hards" come out of the wood work and fill the GA Dome. When we fire RR get a decent GM and Staff, and give cam a few more play makers, watch out! I'm a native Carolinian, the Panthers are MY team and everyone else can FO.

Our NBA and NFL venues are constantly overrun by opposing fans even when we are good. We whine and cry about our star athletes over the most inconsequential stuff. This city is full of people that want to run out the best player our Panthers have ever had at the QB position. I travel this country for a living and I have lived in many professional sports towns prior to moving back to my native Carolina, and I can tell you that hands down Charlotte is the most bitchy town with the most entitled fans in all of sports. This town is full of bandwagon jumpers with no backbone and transplants that think everything from their hometown is better. Frustrating stuff man.

And no, I'm not moving.

Cam's just doesn't have the "likeability." It's sort of his own fault....he does come across as a douche. And Charlotte is not that bad of a sports town but when all your teams are bad for a long time it takes it's toll. It's a responsibility of the respective organizations to put a decent product on the field or court and they haven't.(Though the Bob's are improving) At this point Panther fans would be ecstatic with a 9-7 season, but when you lose to the chiefs.......ugh.
