The Truth about Cam Newton and the Panthers

Good number of folks probably wouldn't remember it, but there was a time when there was talk of the Packers bailing on this young quarterback named Brett Favre.

And there was reason.

Early on, there were a lot of times when Favre made more bad decisions than good ones (detractors may say that never stopped). It got bad enough that Packers fans actually cheered when he'd throw the ball away rather than make a risky pass. In the realm of sports media, there was talk that maybe he just didn't have it in him to be great.

Favre was at a crossroads, and he took the right path. The rest is history.

I'd say in the next year or so, Newton is going to be at a similar crossroads. Phenomenal some times and terrible at others doesn't make a franchise quarterback, so if he's going to be 'that guy' the coaches need to get him to be more consistent in his play. That, and yeah, like a lot of guys his age, he needs to grow up.

If that happens, we'll be set for a while. If not, oy... :(

I fail to see how Newton is slumping. Maybe not improving.....but he hasn't gone backwards.

OL and playcalling sucks. No run game. That had limited his opportunities......but he is pretty much the same guy as last year

not money, I could care less about how the Panthers spend their money, but Time, real time, by the time Cam would have run his course it would be 5-6 years

There is hope fellas. our problem was how our team was ran. we took care of that problem. we arent just getting a new coach to coverup the problem, we wiped our shiit clean.

Come on now, Rivera is killing us with the defensive play calling in all of the 2nd halfs of our games! Playing to keep a lead, not playing to win, you can not do that! We are the prime example why, you don't win that way! He is no HC, needs to find another coaching gig as a DC and soon! He will not be here next year, I thought I had heard that The Big Cat didn't really want Rivera as HC anyways...

this may be a moot point because they are all probably gone at the end of the season anyway but...

I don't think Coaching staff is the Issue, we have the best DC of the last 10 years in the NFL as our HC, and Chud's running of the offense while has a few fans screaming he sucks has done a decent enough Job.

Ron Rivera didn't become the Panthers HC and suddenly forget how to Coach Defense, if he stays it will get better. there is just talent(Oline/WR/DB) gaps on offense and defense right now between where they are and where they need to be.

Cam is not the problem, he is the solution, we have protection problems, coaching problems, ect... Soon people soon it will be known and im talking as soon as next year with a new HC & GM. Cam, Haters Gonna Hate!

Really? think about it, our DB's suck this is not open for debate just a fact. if you are down against a team in the second half with time running out what are you going to do??

lousy DB's + other team needing to pass = other team scoring more.

the issues with the panthers in the second half on defense has not been because of scheme it's just that we do not have the personnel to hold the lead.

think about it, you are leading in the second half what do you want to do, you want to shorten the game. you do that by running the ball more, panthers O-line is in shambles and we can't run the ball at all, much less to close out the game. other team wants to catch up to you what are they going to do? pass more, we don't have the personnel to face a pass heavy offense so they are going to score on us.

People need to realize there are real big personnel issues with this team. coaching can only go so far.

I think the big cat will only be around for 2-3 more years. Cam is done after his initial 4, and I have a feeling people will be glad to see him go. Just a feeling.

There is clearly more to that rating thab meets the eye. Maybe Cam's QBR coulf be better helped if his team step up and get some sort of running game going.

Last season many of u bitched that Cam was being selfish because he was accomplishing so much as a QB. Now ur concerned because the team is trying to establish a running game and isn't quite good at it.

Cam's QBR will start looking better as soon as this team start playing better. Take a look at Romo and Brees. They have more Ints than Cam hut their QBR is like in the high numbers. Football isn't an individual sport. When will some u understand that?
