Pro Bowl, Steve Smith

Recommended Posts

With a little less than two weeks in the popular vote portion of the selection, there are no Panthers leading the ballot at their respective position. Not that this is unexpected, but I think it would be a tremendous shame if we let ourselves go without a Pro-Bowler, see 2007. With the leading non-quarterback candidates between 90,000-350,000 votes, if we concentrated our voting on the same 1-2 players, we could certainly influence the election. Might I be so bold to name one player?

Steve Smith.

Before you troll, Pro-Bowl selection DOES matter, for a singular reason: The Hall of Fame. Am I the only one who would give his left nut to see Steve Smith make the Hall of Fame? I am not kidding. I would break my left fibula.

For relativity sake, if everyone who read Zod's Final Warning message voted 10 times for Steve, he would probably be the second or third highest receiver.

He isn't going to go to the Hall of Fame, but he will get into the Pro Bowl. Calvin Johnson, Vincent Jackson, and Dez Bryant all have more yards than Smith, and more touchdowns. Two have more catches and Jackson is only a few behind. They will go in front of Steve Smith and their teams have 0 shot at going to the Super Bowl. So unless they bow out that is three spots taken there. Marshall, White, and Jones if they don't go to the SB will be in front of him, and Victor Cruz will likely go before him. It is going to be rough but people always bow out every year so there is a shot.

Or, he could just put up ultra numbers through these last four games and make it a no-brainer.

Don't see why people think he won't get into the HOF. the fact alone that he put up those kind of numbers not only at 5 '9, but with mediocre or sub par qb's his entire career, and stuck faithful to one team should send him in regardless how he finishes.

None of that is going to matter, in regards to him getting into the hall.

I think Steve needs at least 1,500 more yards to solidify his chances on HoF, but a Pro Bowl couldn't hurt. Also, it's worth mentioning Victor Cruz is the leading receiver in voting (350,000 votes) and he's 8th in the NFC in yards. It's just the NYC vote.

Also in the time I took between posts, I voted 25 times.

They don't put people in the HOF based off of height or who threw to them... And others WRs who have better stats than him are still not in the hall. You can't put Steve Smith in before a guy like Marvin Harrison or Tim Brown or Cris Carter...CC has gone up for HOF voting three times now I think with no luck.

Smith needs 3000 more yards to be really considered for the HOF

He can get that in 3 years

3k yards will put him in the 14k range, where other guys are with no entry to the HOF. WR for some reason is one of the hardest positions to get into the HOF for. It is only going to get harder now that offenses are all about passing and not running much anymore.

Smitty will need 3,000 more to have a good chance. I am going to whisper in his ear and ask him to play until he's 40. Even if it means to average 500 yards a season, atleast he will get up to the top 5.
