Back from the KC game

Well as I had been calling for the last 4 or 5 weeks, we lost in KC. I figured it would be because KC is a tough place to play, I didnt figure it would be Brady Quinn would toast us..

Here are some observations I had ( 50 yard line 2nd row behind our bench)

1. Cam and the Receivers rarely talked on the sidelines while we was on defense. Maybe this is the norm, but I would think there would be offensive meetings to keep everyone in check and know what everyone should be doing.

2. Cam still came over and tried to keep Lafell up in spirits after his drop. As well talking and giving fives to the defensive player. Cam seems to be really turning in to a leader.

3. Jordan Senn yelling most of the game at the rest of the players. Especially when we had the 12 men on the field penalty..Senn was yelling to "get everyones fugging head in the game". You know...Everyone should have their head in the game already...

4. Typical Rivera- Rarely even talked to the players on the sideline. When there would be some time outs, Ron would not even be in the group meeting...Micromanagers do not belong in the NFL as Coach. He did though eat Josh Thomas' lunch for that dumb personal foul. I was shocked.

5. Colin Jones- Seemed like the guy that trys to be cool...He would go out on a punt return or something and mouth the opponents and act tough. Next thing he would run over to talk with Smitty as if he wanted to tell someone what he did..I get tired enough of seeing Smitty mouth and act like a moron, but now we have a guy that wants to be just like him. Colin also said he wanted to punch someone in the fugging mouth..I think we was looking at another player on the team, was looking directly at a group of defensive players on the sideline.

Overall, I like what I see from Cam and Keuchly is going to be a beast for a while. Other than the few young bright spots we have, this season seems to be over with a lot of people on the roster and coaches. I did not see one coach yelling or getting in the face of a player. Come on guys...We were losing to the chiefs. We gave up an opening drive TD to a team that hasnt had one in 29 games!!

Sad to hear about the coaching, or lack of...

what was the crowd like? I've heard they are pretty friendly to opposing team's fans.

I dont have any complaints with the stadium. Actually there was a good chunk of Carolina Blue on this side of the stadium. More than I expected.

One of the only positives from a player perspective on this season could be the humbling of Cam Newton.

He still has his edge, but the leader is being pushed to the surface.

Yeah, I was really impressed with him going over to encourage Lafell after that big drop. Cutler would have been screaming and yelling at him.

I was sitting 9 seats behind you. There were a lot of Panthers fans on the first couple of rows.. almost felt like a Panther home game.. there were a lot more Panthers fans than I expected.

You are right about Cam not interacting with players on the sideline. I'd like to see Cam become a motivator and keep the offensive players engaged. He seems more of a loner right now. I think this will change with experience.

Rivera knows he is gone after the season, so I see him giving minimal effort on the sidelines.

The chiefs fans sitting around me were awesome and made me feel very welcome. After the game, walking back to the car, there were 2 separate occurences where I was heckled by chiefs fans.

The first time, a chiefs fan screamed "Have a fun ride home Panthers loser!", and I replied, "You know we have a better record than you right?", and he replied, "But we are right behind you"... so I got some satisfaction at him saying that.

The second time, a chiefs fan said "Oh look a Panthers fan with all his teeth!, I never thought I'd see the day".. I told him "Some people shouldn't drink alcohol".

I expected much more heckling to be honest.. most of the chiefs fans were very classy.

If i was drunk i would have said something really disrespectful to those fans in light of the situation. Glad i wasn't there.

    • Just had Thanksgiving meal with a couple dozen family and friends. I lucked out and got one of the smoked turkey legs. Stuffing, mashed taters and gravy, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, kale, smoked ham, chicken and rice, corn, lima beans, cranberry sauce, and great people. My brother got his guitar out and we got to singing. Lots of actual conversations with people I hardly  ever get to see, haven't seen in a while, or who I never met before. Just a great moment to remember.
    • 3-8 would be a higher win percentage than 3-9
    • Same... With the personnel the Niners had, that defense could have been historically good in the right hands. Under Wilks they were certainly good, they didn't quite rise to that level. Honestly, I see Wilks kinda like I see Rivera: fantastic person, decent head coach. Skill wise, phenomenal DB coach, so-so DC. His greatest strength is his leadership. Hard to find many better in that department. In the Xs and Os / execution area though, not as good. Bottom Line: Wilks is the sort of coach that needs a staff that excels in those aspects of the game where he's weaker. But, like Rivera, I don't know that he scouts assistants very well. That as much as anything might be why he's not in the NFL now.
