Jordan Officially Interested In Changing Name to Hornets

Well of course.. apparently we are all still living in the past with the thought of The Hornets rushing through our nostalgic brains. I can't wait to see it happen as I know it will be at least a boost in fan attendance amongst other things.

It wouldn't have been so bad if NO would have changed their name from the onset, but since they didn't....The Hornets name has been mocking us ever since.

I think anyone who has been following the NBA for a while will always see The "Hornets" connected to Charlotte first...even despite being in NO for a while. I'd be willing to bet that the Charlotte Hornet brand sells more merchandise and things like hats and such than the NO brand. It'll be a nice to have Charlotte Buzzin' again..

Man, I hope this happens sooner rather than later... I remember being a kid back during the 90's Jordan era and the Hornets were fugin poppin'. And back when I actually cared about Charlotte basketball. I guess it didn't hurt their popularity that their team color was like the color of the 90's.

Not true. We identify with the brand of our teams as they represent us. By your logic it would be of no consequence if the Tarheels were no longer the Tarheels, or the Blue Devils the Blue Devils. In business....branding is one of the absolute most important things. If Metallica changed their name do you think they would be as popular?

The point is this......the city always has been more invested in the Hornets and when they left it took something out of Charlotte. Remember LJ, Alonzo, and Mugsy painted on the side of that building? It will come back when the Hornets come back. We will be an NBA city again. I just really don't think you understand the implications. I would actually bet it would have an impact on our ability to sign free agents, season ticket sales would go up. They sell more Hornets hats then Bobcats hats right now and the Hornets aren't even in Charlotte. We would get more national attention. The rebranding would undoubtedly provide more revenue for the team which directly impacts the product on the court.

What a lot of people don't know is that the team 'The Hornets' were originally a minor league baseball farm team that was adopted in the early 1900's. And the term 'Hornets' was in reference to Cornwallis referring to Charlotte as a 'Hornet's Nest'. The story, and evolution of the story is really cool.

The team, however, was an afterthought to the city of Charlotte when Shinn asked for a new arena on their dime.

The glory days were replaced by street signs, petitions and a product that represented a good but not great mentality - a product that ultimately knew its fate.

I'm invested in the team - a team that might suffer from causation vs. correlation. They might become the Hornets again, and make the playoffs. But the reason will be because they are building a new product - not because their name changed and people will come out of the woodwork to support them.

Hell, people will probably jump off the bandwagon because the team is 'selling out'.

Change name to Hornets

Bring back logo. make a couple modern changes

Keep the current color scheme

Force fans to buy merchandise of orange and blue Hornets

Make money back

Sign good free agents

Stop turning the ball over late in games

Win lots of games

I agree we have a solid young core of players. With the addition of some solid post players in the forthcoming off season, we could be a playoff team for years to come....Bobcats or Hornets. This topic is more of a comparison of whether or not it would be more beneficial to the organization to stay the Bobs, or change to the Hornets however. As far as nostalgia goes, people are inclined in general to be nostalgic over things they've liked in the past. The reason the Hornets failed is because of Shinn's publicized sex scandal and then wanting the city to pony up for an arena, a decision that would make the local government look as if it supports corruption in business. With MJ however we have "the" North Carolina golden boy who wants to bring the Hornets back, and make things right. I would imagine that when the NBA granted Charlotte another team, that if the Hornets name was available then we would have used it, but it wasn't obviously.

If we can get the Hornets name back it would shed the perception of the awkward new team around the league, and give us our place back in history. Good players are concerned about the perception of the team in free agency situations. I'm not saying changing to the Hornets is going to magically make everything better, like anything it's a process. But it will help our attendance, revenue, and all around make the NBA more exciting in the city again.

I think that the city and Charlotte Hornets 2.0 should organize a welcome back parade into the Hive with Hugo and the players on floats.

Ask somebody(Alexander Julian maybe? Jordan Brand probably.) to update the old teal and purple pinstripe uniforms. Blue and orange are not who we are.

I was a Hornets fan from day one. I went to many games and have also been to quite a few Bobcats games. MJ since taking over TWC has transformed the atmosphere into a party win or lose. Putting all the Hornets trademarks and sound effects etc. in TWC will be crazy! I trust that Jordan will do this with style and flair. That will be a great day for Charlotte.

MJ will have finally bought the "Charlotte Hornets" who would still be here if Shinn had just sold to MJ instead of Woolrich in the first place.
