should we worry?

No. All GM's deal with the cap and managing contracts and acquisitions around and underneath it. It's probably one of the biggest facets of the job they have to deal with outside of all the different personalities of rich, spoiled, and entitled athletes who come completely assembled with fragile bodies and psyches.

That said, what we should worry about is that our cap issue is unique in that an abnormally large percentage of our highly paid guys who are taking up cap space are suspect of sucking out loud. We need to have what some would call a "fire sale" only that would be an incorrect moniker since for some the fire was either superimposed (yeh, the goat) from the jump or started going out sometime ago.

What this GM will have in front of him/her (i vote Condeleeza Rice for GM since she has more balls than anyone else I have heard mentioned thus far) is how to purge waste, promote "talent", and retain value in an attempt to salvage some of Jerry's biscuit money. He has to do this without offending the current coaching staff (which is why I am certain they will be gone because that would be impossible) and he has to somehow field a team next season that does not garner an unprecedented amount of vitriol from fans and media in the market. That too will be impossible since we all know as frequenters of the Huddle that plenty of Panther fans have convinced themselves that they have all the answers.

The next two seasons will not be easy. Lots of moves will be easily disagreed with and some will even defy even the most common of sensibilities. We want a good, no great person to take the reigns right now but my fear is that the great ones know that whoever takes over through what needs to take place the next two seasons (minimum IMHO) is never going to be able to become a fan or media favorite and will risk a mob-placed blackball from the industry. It is likely that we will get a second tier choice that has nothing to lose and wants to make his mark. That is what scares the sh-t out of me more than anything else. The likelihood that a candidate with limited or questionable experience can manage the difficulties this roster presents this year and next is in my opinion very slim.

We need some serious luck, a surprise or two, and a hell of a lot of patience.

My thoughts were not meant to inspire patience. I don't care who blows their top, loses their cool, offs their woman, or themselves. People that cannot handle pressure will do weird things and who am I to stand in their way. My thoughts were just my honest opinion of the best case scenario we are staring at. It will likely be much worse.

I wasn't arguing with you. I agree with everything you said. I'm just saying, this fanbase is not patient. Not willing to grow and develop a young QB who won rookie of the year last year. First few weeks, Keek was a "wasted pick". Stew injured both his ankles and "that extension was a mistake". Etc.

you are right. I kind of thought you were making an observation, just driving your observation home a little more as an example of what not to do. Fans by definition are not typically patient and that is fine but what we have coming up will really push some of them to the limit.
