Tracking Down 'Front Office' Employees

As some of you may or may not know, I am currently working on completing my master's degree in homeland security. It is an emerging field of study and right now I am in the largest academic homeland security program in the world. I am a few weeks away from finishing my first semester after deciding to pursue graduate school immediately after receiving by bachelor's degree.

One of my professors throughout the semester kept referring back to sports as a growing and expanding dimension within the realm of homeland security with events such as the World Cup and Olympics taking place on much larger scales than ever before. It got me thinking:

Sure I could continue going through the government security clearances and background checks on my way to working for the federal government in agencies such as the FBI, CIA, or DHS. However, sports have long been a passion of mine and I would love to be able to combine my education and put my degrees to use to pursue a 'dream job'.

Experience is huge here. I need to get my foot in the door and bust my ass to get to where I want to be. This summer I will be in the Boston area and I have looked up the directors of security and player safety for teams like the Red Sox, Bruins, and Celtics. Each franchise has their guy in place right now. My Question to the Huddle: How do I go about retrieving their e-mail addresses or contact information so I can inquire about working an unpaid internship as their assistant or something along those lines? On the team websites it has information about internships but nothing related to what I ultimately want to do: Be a director of security for a professional sports franchise one day.

If any of you have any ideas as to how to make contact with these men or even someone close to them it would be greatly appreciated. Better yet, if any of you have any contacts within sports franchises and could ask for their advice on my behalf I would be thrilled to say the least.

Thanks to all who responded. With something like this it just seems really difficult for a 22 year old to get his foot in the door and make contact with someone in a front office; let alone work as his/her assistant. Unfortunately I am on the west coast right now so there is no way I can get down to Fenway or the TD Garden to drop off a written letter. I'll write something up and drop it off in December when I am home for holidays.

Aside from that, is there usually a number listed anywhere that would go to the front office and possibly even connect me to Director of Security or Player Safety?

try to break into one of these major facilities and you'll get to meet security real fast...work your way up the ladder from there!!!!

Also on average it takes 7 voice mails before someone will actually call you back. Ridiculous.

I've had my heart set on this for some time now and  caught a lucky break and wanted to follow up on it in this thread that I started a while back.

 

I recently discovered a connection through a cousin who is good friends with a guy that previously worked as an executive for the Yankees and Giants. He played an integral role in the building of the new Metlfie stadium and though he isn't in the Sports security business anymore, he was still a valuable asset. I got his email and we talked on the phone extensively one day and he gave me some advice and luckily put me into contact with the head of security of the New England Patriots whom he has worked with and is friends with.

 

So, I e-mailed the Patriots and the company that handles their stadium and player security and sure enough, I now have an interview with them when I get back to the east coast and am hoping to land an internship under the supervision of the Patriots' head of security and front office personnel this summer. It is a bummer that it's the off-season but I still should be able to tour the locker room and meet some of the staff and possibly even Robert Kraft himself. If I get the internship, I will likely work during New England Revolution games at the stadium and during concerts.

 

I am really hoping this opportunity allows me to get my foot in the door in the professional sports industry and if it does I cannot wait to work hard and make a good impression. Fingers are crossed!

First off Congrats on the possibility.  But wouldnt you think posting about it on a message board falls into the first thing you wouldnt want to do in security?  Loose lips sink ships and all that stuff.
