Panthers vs. Eagles Pros & Cons

I'll probably get hosed for this but I've been really impressed with Josh Norman all year. He has covered some quality receivers this year and for a rookie, he looks to be the real deal in the next couple of years. Really good draft choice and an excellent value.

Downsides, I love him but Smitty needs to really calm down with the scuffling and jawing after the play. I believe that it's happened in every game. I love the chip on his shoulder probably more than anyone but geez...calm down. Most corners are intimidated by his play anyway.

I continue to be impressed with our front four.

O-line was actually good this week and gave Cam time to pass. It's about time.

Smitty does seem to be a lot more overt with his in-your-face pushing and shoving this season. I mean, he's always been like that, but he seems to be much more on the edge this year. I've sensed several times he was right on the verge of getting some dumb penalties.

I'm gonna assume he knows what he's doing though until he does actually start getting penalized for it...

Amini's second decent game in a row. He was really destroying people, he knocked Gross' guy down several times. Josh Thomas coverage, tighter than a ten year olds butt hole.

Didn't like Gross on skates, Amini saved him all night. Also didn't like Martin, never do. Josh Norman still plays too soft.

I like AE on kickoff returns, he looks comfortable. Good balance of patience and speed hitting the hole. Way better than than the Kealoha jog or the Joe Adams hokie pokie

Who says tighter than a 10 year olds butthole?

Sandusky has Internet in prison???

I like the fact that the defense didn't give up any points in the 4th quarter. That shows growth for me. Philly had the run game going on us, but there were only 2 big plays that led to points for them. The 60 yd. run and the 50 yd. pass interference. I kinda thought the PI was BS, but I can see why they called it. Nakamura was playing the man, Norman was playing the ball. If Nakamura had just stayed out of the way, Norman has a pretty good chance to come down with it. Instead...they have at around the 10 yd line. That doesn't happen, I doubt the Eagles would have mustered more than another FG. On the run we just had a bad play. We got beat.

Philly still had a number of key starters on the field. And may I remind you that we were without three of our best players: Kalil, Beason, and Gamble. Maybe it's not quite as bad as Philly, but we had a makeshift O-line for that game as well.

It was a much needed win and we saw SuperCam on MNF. That was pretty awesome. I think the guy is turning out to be a bit egocentric, but I'd rather have him on my team that play against him, so that's respect. This kid can completely take over a football game. I liked how Cam was able to audible more at the LOS and I think he did a fine job of picking up yards with his feet. He had a game very reminiscent of McNabb, McNair, or even Steve Young. At his best, he is that style of player. But he could still be SO much better. It's scary...

I like Norman. I think he will turn out to be our starting #2 for years to come, but I don't see him getting to the #1 level any time soon. We still need a great corner across from him to make him more effective. Munnerlyn has been good-to-great this season. Another great value draft pick. Still, we are going to have to address #1CB and a FS in the offseason. Otherwise our D is in good shape.

All in all, I hope Rivera gets fired. I'm starting to get a little worried he won't. Let's say we win 2 more games (KC and Oakland)...We'd have 5 wins and I think he'd get another ride. We have a legitimate shot at winning 4 out of the last 5 (I don't think we will, but I could see a way that that could happen). What if we did finish the season with 7 wins? How could you possibly let rivera go? Would that be worse than finishing with only 3 or 4 wins? I don't know.

All I know is that when the Panthers win, everything feels right with the world. That's why I keep coming back. They keep winning, I won't complain.

I agree with most of what you said. I still think the GM starts fresh with a new coaching staff. Their scheme and decision making have sabotaged this season. New GM will want his own people

    • I just switched to prime video with fanduel south. Will I be able to watch the Canes playoff games still?
    • I mean, you can use that "logic," but the problem is that most practice squad players, backups or average guys don't put the play on film that Wharton did when given their opportunities.  Perhaps you'll end up right, but I don't think that just because a guy has been in a rotation makes him inherently less productive because he gets more snaps. I will say that the KC fans I've seen on social media loved him, and considered him their second best DT,  regardless of his "rotational" status, and generally considered him a dawg, so I'm going to give him the benefit of doubt until he shows otherwise.
    • Did I miss something?  The people we have developing players now are not the ones we've had in the past so I don't know what the heck people are talking about when they say we are not good at developing players right now.  We only have one year to go on.  Canales likes young players or players who are on an upward trajectory, especially in FA this year.  Past QB's and what he's done with Bryce are good examples. Tershawn Wharton - 26 Tre'von Moehrig - 25 Pat Jones II - 26 Bobby Brown III - 24 Michael Jackson - 28 Jaycee Horn - 25 Tommy Tremble - 24 We missed on Milton Williams but he's 26. Everyone else we picked up are on 1 year deals.  The Panthers new front office and Canales absolutely scream developmental team. Pick 8 (stay) Tier 1 Elite - Abdul Carter, Travis Hunter and Mason Graham Tier 2 Elite - Jalon Walker, Mykel Williams, Will Johnson Trade down: There are quite a few really good players that fit us at Edge, DT, S and WR mid to late 1st and high 2nd.  Some combos that would be possible that I really like.  Imagine getting 2 of these guys by trading down. Stark, Pierce Jr, Golden, Scourton, Grant, Emmanwori, Ezeiruaku, Umanmielen, Deone Walker, Harmon and this is just off the top of my head.
