For the Sake of the Franchise

It is imperative we lose out. For two very simple reasons. One, it gives Rivera no shot at returning next year. I mean our new GM shouldn't have to spend a night to sleep over whether or not he wants to stick with Rivera. If we win 3 of our next 5, that will put us at 6-10. I believe we can definitely win out, just because of the talent we have on this team. (We've proven we got the stuff to beat Atlanta and New Orleans. By the way, Atlanta will most likely be resting their guys when we play them) Under that scenario, we would be forced to think about keeping Rivera and this staff. If that happens, I bet you they will give Rivera another year. Another year to kill Cam's career.

The second reason losing out helps this franchise, is we will most likely end up with the first overall pick. I don't care how badly Barkley looked this season, and I don't care about his injury. QB desperate teams will desire to trade up to get him. With the rookie wage scale now set, teams will want to move up. We need that treasure trove of picks to get a dynasty started. We have a bunch of needs, and I expect we won't have the money to go after big free agents. So we got to stock pile in the draft. Two picks in the first three rounds is not going to cut it. If we trade back from the first overall, we could pick up 4 picks within the first two rounds (1st, two 2nds, and a 3rd) and pick up a first for next year at the least. (Possibly putting us in position to pick up a Marquis Lee or Jadeveon Clowney) The amazing part about that is we wouldn't have to drop down far from the first overall, possibly still picking within the top 4. (Think Minnesota trade with Cleveland) So we should be able to still pick up either Luke Joeckel or Star Lotulelei.

So we have to lose five games in order for all this to come true, what is that compared to a bunch of talent for your new coach to work with next year? I don't know about any of you, but we need this as a franchise. We need a new offensive minded coach, and we need draft picks.

I will never wish for my team to lose, for any reason. I also have no desire to have the first pick. I'd much prefer to pick around 3-6.

I think that is kind of funny because if Rivera sticks around another year, and then draft guys we never heard of in the second round, we will continue to lose. We got to go beyond this season, and build for the future.

We really don't need to see this same thread after every game.

I actually thought I was the only one who felt this way, and decided to make it a topic. I don't know though, this plan seems to be the best thing possible, yet for some reason we don't think so. I want to know why.

terrible idea matthias, just terrible

stringing together a six-win streak will do wonders for the guys who will be on this team as the core for years to come, far more than a guy rated a few picks higher in the draft.

You don't have a problem if Rivera is kept another season, running the same stuff next year? You don't have a problem with the same staff, holding Cam's development back another year? You don't have a problem with Rivera drafting more guys like Terrell McClain, Fua, Amini (yeah, Amini could develop, but all I know is Cordy Glenn looks like a pro bowler), and the like?

I have a major problem with that. Plus, having more draft picks will help us tremendously.

your flaw is basing the above points on the false premise that the current staff will be here next year unless we lose out.
