Cam Newton and the forbidden Audibles

Does anyone really doubt Cam's throws when he has time to sit in the pocket? I'm convinced he is still the same player he just needs more support from the rest of the team. Throwing deep with a terrible run game isn't going to work.

I'm praying Cam and Lafell can end the season on a high note. He looked for Lafell more off the audibles.

I sincerely believe some of his struggles and picks at the first of the year came when he was trying to force the ball to Steve. We may not have another dominant receiver yet, but we do have some capable ones to help.

yep. i'm not sure if the focus on smitty has been b/c of cam or chud, but cam hasn't been spreading the ball around like last year and like he could have this year. it's been far too focused on smitty.

I was screaming this at the TV during the game when they did that. They have done this before. I just dont get it. I think this offense and Cam is better when he is under center.

yep

i dont understand how chuds brain works, if somethings working he changes.. if the read option isnt working he sticks with it for 3 quarters..

good example would be the broncos game, we started good on our first scoring drive, then comes chud with the lame duck spread option based scheme till the last 5 mins of the game -_-

It was the eagles. Yes Cam played well but it was the Eagles...you know the team without a true DC.

To my mind, Newton's accuracy should be more the concern. When that open slant is there, he has got to hit it...not miss two yards high.

Against a better team, interception by safety.

Cam tends to be a little streaky. I counted 4 bad passes in the 1st half, then he was pretty much on target the rest of the game. Keep in mind though that all QB's miss passes. It's not something unique to Cam.

yeah lets not forget the we just played the eagles. their defense was the reason cam was being patient, making good decisions, calling audibles, and using proper footwoork..

bad throws happen.. not his first and not his last.. get over it

Lot easier to be patient when its not the Giants or Broncos defense.

I'm not bashing Cam.

I'm just saying until he learns to beat the blitz of a good defensive team when it matters, he has not arrived and let's not crown him for arriving for beating a team that for all intent and purposes has quit for the year.

For the Record, I'm a Newton fan, but, his accuracy is not good and must improve for him and this team to move forward.

how badly he missed lafell on that slant is about the only real blemish on his game against philadelphia. maybe that screen to stewart that he overshot by just a hair too. it was well designed and caught the eagles in an all out blitz. stewart was all alone with several blockers and lots of empty space in front of him.

he has to learn to stick that throw, though. those slants are so vital in a two minute offense.

First, let me say that I love Cam. I look forward to his becoming as great as Rodgers and Eli and Brady. Because he will. I don't like Brees.

I can see Chud's plan as surely as if he wrote it out for me. It's all about teaching Cam and allowing him time to learn. The speed seems slow only because there are only 16 games, 60 minutes a week. SIXTY MINUTES. Chud knew D's would attack the option differently this year and Cam needed to be able to handle that & understand what they were doing. That he had a problem with it was evident from the Jets preseason game. Good D's also adjust during games and Cam needed to be able to handle that too. And Cam's decision making suffered while he learned. Thus, slow indecisive handoffs. Late, from the back foot, throws. Cam scrambling. And don't try to tell me it was because Cam didn't call audibles. With every down it's Cam who calls & sets the protection. Until he can do it without second guessing himself, you will see hesitation and bad decisions from Cam. It affects the o-line too, who are young and learning themselves. I'm not sure Cam would've called any audibles even if he could.

Chud opened the playbook some Monday night. And, yes, the Eagles secondary helped. When was the last time Cam looked a safety off & it worked that well? Saints game? But their front D were pulling stunts the entire 2nd half. Show one thing and do another. Overload a side, hopefully the correct side. Did you watch the o-line? On almost every play one of our lineman was free, guarding no one, because of those stunts. That's why it took pulling them offsides to move down the field and to get them to stop stunting so much. It was a brilliant move on Chud's and Cam's part, the Eagles stopped the stunts. That's the reason we could run the ball as well as we did to close the game. Okay, you wanna' do that, then we'll do this. lol That's part of the bruising football Rivera wants to play.

Cam was correct after the game. He does need to be more consistent. Not with throws but with decision making, reading the D, setting the correct protection. He did, finally, take what the D gave him - damn, he read what they were doing - and dictated to them. It was one good game. It will take many, many more before he's doing it without thinking about it so much. That is what Chud is doing for Cam. Giving him the opportunities to be great.

Patient optimism.

Cam was the third highest rated passer last year against the blitz, which is why teams have dialed down their blitzes this year. They're now generating pressure without losing coverage against our pathetic offensive line.

Well last year the read option was used ocasionally as a change-up play and was very successful, so Chud tries to base a whole offense on it. Unfortunately he doesn't understand the concept of a change-up (or why it has the name).

In baseball, even if a pitcher has a great change up, if he start's throwing it all the time it just becomes a really slow fastball. Same thing in football.

Statistic are interesting and they are misleading.

What was he record against better defenses last year, and this year? ...and in games that mattered.

Again, I'm a Newton fan, but, not a Newton apologist. He's a 2nd year QB and not as polished as some and more polished then others.

you say youre a newton fan.. but dont you know that good qbs are supposed to do that to bad defenses. if he would have struggled, that would have been a problem.

as far as better defenses, pay better attention to the games and youll see the problem. its a mixture of terrible o line play and horrible passing plays by chud. the eagles d only has 7 sacks on the year and even they got plenty of penetration of our o line

before you try to say im a cam nut hugger, dont. i call it like i see it..

yes, cam has terrible throwing accuracy sometimes, but you cant bash him for it.. look at his td passes from the monday night game. set his feet in the pocket and launched the ball with perfect placement and spiral
