stewart has a high ankle sprain

DeAngelo is not a bad RB. We have a shmuck of an OC who has no clue how to use him.

He will be 30 next year.....he might not be bad but he ain't what he was and that has nothing to do with Chud.

And yes, Chud is an idiot but him being such doesn't wash everything else away

I just don't think you wake up the morning of 29 and you forget how to be a 1000 yard back. The degree to which he is SO awful right now is mostly contributed to his style of running not fitting within our scheme anymore. I think its a mix of Chodezinksi not utilizing him correctly and our O-line is so piss poor. Maybe a decent oline years past helped inflate his stats and ability, I'm not sure. I would just assume a drop-off due to age would be a slower affair, especially for someone who has shared carries his whole time here.

true, but he can still play effectively with most of his injuries.

case in point, he's been struggling with injuries all season long, yet he is still edging out williams in production.

he still has some 100 or some odd games to miss before he has missed just as many games as williams...that is sarcasm just in case someone doesn't get it.

Yeah, has been able to play with some minor injuries, but so have most NFL players and in my opinion, the only reason Stew has edged D Will out, is because of our type of offense fits Stew better. I like them both, but Stew has had health issues from day one.

You don't.....trend down started last year. People overlook that and think it is pure not fitting the scheme.

NFL RBs actually historically wash out pretty rapidly. They don't slowly fade. They are good, then clearly aren't what they were. Look at all the recent top tier RBs that washed out in recent years. Blame it on a hundred different reasons why they faded.....but they faded quick

more from rotoworld...

Panthers OC Rob Chudzinski concedes Jonathan Stewart (high-ankle sprain) hasn't been 100 percent all season.

"He's fighting through it and he's doing the best he can with it. I know some weeks it's better than others," Chudzinski said. "We'll just have to wait and see and hopefully we can get that thing healed up quick." We've noticed the past few weeks that Stewart simply doesn't have the explosive playmaking ability of previous seasons. An August high-ankle sprain and subsequent toe injury have sapped his homerun speed. With an offseason to rest in addition to the prospects of a new coaching staff and DeAngelo Williams' departure, Stewart remains a Dynasty "hold."

one reason why i don't like overall ypc to judge a running back's performance...

stewart's carries... 6, 5, 12, 9, -7, -4, 4, 2

williams carries...2, -1, 3, -2, 2, 0, 4, 3, 3, 4, 3

stewart was more efective than williams by a wide margin.

If you don't like just looking at stats, then don't just list the stats; watch the plays and compare the schemes, defensive penetration, and all the other factors that contribute. Stewart ran out of i formations and pro sets far more often than Williams did, and was met in the backfield fewer times (and no, he didn't turn those into positive yards when he was)

Also Williams did have a couple of 11 yarders called back by penalties if you'll recall.

williams ran out of the i formation 9x, stewart 5.

williams ran out of the shotgun 2x, stewart 3.

williams had 1 positive run called back. it was officially a 15 yard run. tossing that into his list of runs doesn't make his overall performance look any better.

people keep bringing up scheme being a limitation for williams, but i already posted a breakdown of how the backs have performed in different formations...

• Who is the most effective on zone-read plays? Newton, who averages 5.8 yards per zone-read carry, DeAngelo Williams averages 5.0 yards on those plays, and Jonathan Stewart gains 4.0 yards.

• The statistics support using Stewart more often than Williams on traditional handoffs. Stewart averages 5.7 yards per carry on traditional handoffs, with Newton starting under center. Williams has 30 yards on 18 carries on that type of play, a 1.67-yard average.

charlotteobserver...

and now the lack of a zone blocking scheme is being tossed around as an excuse for williams...but the zone blocking scheme wasn't introduced until 2007.

williams ran fine in 2006 without it.

stewart is running at less than 100% with the same suspect oline and scheme...yet williams can't outperform him.

there are factors that play into overall performance, but there is no doubt that williams is on the decline.

Some lame comments in this thread...

The Problem is not DW or JS the problem is the offensive line, or/and the OC or/and the extra blockers (wr,fb,te.)

Look at their stats.

JS : 336 yards, 3.6 PC 1TD.

DW : 292 yards, 3.2 PC, 3 TDs.

Both JS and DW are good RB, among the best in the NFL, look at their previous stats again..

And both are struggling, so respect your RBs a litle more and look elsewhere whiners.
