Cam's pocket ability

Last couple of weeks he's had to run for his life behind this shotty OLine....but he's been doing a much better job of sliding up and out of the pocket to escape pressure. He's feeling that pressure and he's moving his feet. He's been making some rocket launcher throws that are fun to watch because he gives himself space to throw...and he's also scrambled very effectively, which is a luxury on 3rd down..

We need to remember he hasn't even had two seasons yet as QB....and if he continues to develop that pocket awareness...he will become a very good QB in this league..

I'm liking the adjustments Cam has made...wish the play calling would adjust as well..

We talked about this a little on twitter last night... Cam is a threat as a runner, no doubt, but Chud doesn't really utilize that this season... but at the same time, they're not letting him be a true pro QB either...

Cam has mechanics issues, esp when he's under pressure, he needs to work on his footwork, but he will stand in the pocket and pass the ball, that's not an issue. We need a coaching staff that can work on his mechanics and will trust him to run a true pro system AND at the same time, let him use his running ability.

tl;dr - the coaches we have suck.

Yes, anyone who has watched all his games can see the actual development. I would like to see Cam continue this progression by refusing to force the ball into heavy coverage at the last moment, and throw the ball out of bounds when necessary. But, he is definitely improving.

i agree with everything except the "true pro system" part because i don't think there is a "true pro system".

what they are doing hasn't been working all that well because they aren't doing it right and they aren't making adjustments when they are needed and when they do make adjustments and they work they revert back to what wasn't working. just bad playcalling all around.

i do agree that they aren't trusting cam nearly enough. they drafted an incredibly gifted natural talent at QB who is a playmaker of the highest order, but they aren't making use of it. they are trapping him in a hybrid bastard of a scheme that just isn't working. they are thinking too much and making things worse. last year cam showed he can be a pro QB, one of the best in the league at that, and they essentially just let him be cam. they even adjusted the offense midway through and he still excelled and would have won if the defense hadn't sucked so bad. if chud and rivera could just relinquish control a little and let the kid play and earn his stripes like they did last year with just a little adjustment here and there and solid tips on how to improve then they would see more wins and more success on offense and even more growth in cam.

we don't need to be fitting him into some "pro style" offense. we need to be building an offense around his strengths and limitations. find what works and use it and build on it. find what doesn't work and exclude it, esp. if it's not absolutely needed for him to win. spend time with him and help him grow along the way. allow him to make mistakes and learn from them and guide him in that process so he can make better decisions throwing the ball. help him learn to read defenses and coverages better and give him a better target or two and time with his receivers. that will make him elite.

Yeah, I hear you... what I mean and didn't say clearly is stop with the gadgets, give him some autonomy and don't limit him... iow trust him. They clearly don't yet.

Of course, this is the same staff that lets the clock run out with 0:45 and 3 timeouts left... :(

I don't think they trust anyone.

it's because they're scared, insecure, and inexperienced.

Like a skinny 16 year old

i was thinking like a chihuahua puppy but that works as well. those are about the most neurotic dogs on the planet. i don't think that this coaching staff has the spunk that a chihuahua has though. just the jittering bundle of nerves.

This is one of our Chihuahua's...

She has 10X more spunk than our coaching staff... if she was a football coach, she would bite players heads off and go for it on 4th down EVERY TIME.

Was it my imagination or was Cam calling audibles last night? Or was he just changing the blocking scheme?

He called adjustments. It was nice to see. The more he does it the more he will develop. The play call should be a suggestion...and Cam should be able to shake if he sees something that isnt right...

Like a pitcher shaking a catcher to another pitch
