anyway...yeah, i wouldn't want to run an offense that can put up the offensive numbers like the patriots and saints and the broncos are now. why would i want an offense that is built to capitalize on the new rules protecting the passing game?

it's quite possible that we will be running some form of the spread. the spread is spreading through the league. in a couple years it will be the most run offense in the NFL.

I wouldn't mind it if we had receivers that could get consistent separation, but as it stands, the spread we run prevents us from running the ball at times to support the passing game.

Pretty much this. Derek Anderson was brought in because he knew the Chud system from his days with the Browns. He also provided someone who could help Cam in his study during his transition to the NFL.

I did and I'd still take him as a back up.

He's been just above mediocre his whole career. I can't call him an improvement over Anderson.

that's kind of what i was hinting at with my spread offense post. i wasn't completely serious, but then again i wouldn't be surprised either.

most likely scenario is that the new HC and OC will be brought in not only to build an offense around newton, but because their offensive mindset and experience will probably be something that is used to working with an offense that can fit cam's skillset and one in which he probably has experience in.

then a backup will probably be picked who has experience in that kind of system or would be able to fit it. more than likely it won't be either QB that is on the roster right now. beyond that i'm not making any guesses. i just hope it's not us going after the shiniest available backup and hoping that he can fit what the offense does.

I'd pretty much keep Anderson over about anyone mentioned in this thread.

If there's a coaching change though, good chance the new guy will want a backup who knows his system.

i kind of think we need to do both. get an experienced set of eyes on the sidelines and in the meeting room and then a younger guy that can jump in if needed.
