Would You Trade Gerald Henderson?

Herbert The Love Bug

Recommended Posts

I have been thinking about this for a while.

If we could trade for the right post player to put us over the top would you consider trading Gerald Henderson? I don't really know who we could trade for, but a young, long, athelic guy, without a huge contract that plays hard with good defense and offense. I think Taylor has proven that he can start and is our best defensive player. I would try to put together a package of Henderson/Thomas and maybe even throw in Reggie Williams and a second rounder. I don't know if that could get us an up and coming star, but maybe.

Don't get me wrong I really like Henderson. Our bench would be pretty good with Session/Gordon/Taylor and we would be a deep team at the 1-3 but we are severely lacking in good post players. That is holding us back.

What are your opinions?

I have said it long ago that Hendo is very overrated on this team just bc he's a Bobcats and homers are going to believed in a certain way about their players. I love the Bobcats but I dont see Hendo as that game changer or play maker for this franchise. He's at best for any contending team as a 6th man off the bench.

Jeff Taylor can gives us almost the same productivity as Hendo without the athleticism. And Taylor is a far more better shooter than Hendo. I'll trade Hendo is we could get something like a 1st. I think we could get one for him from a team like the Lakers who'll end up with a late 1st and are lacking bench players.

Im a fan of Hendo but I expected more out of him especially being a 12th overall lottery pick. He haven't lived up to where he was drafted.

I would argue that Taylor is actually more athletic than Hendo. He is just not as aggressive at the rim.

you think so?

I dont. Gerald is a lot more athletic than Taylor imo, but Taylor is a much better overall basketball player than Gerald. A better shooter and just a smarter player. He's only a rookie and he's already giving us the the same productivity as Gerald. And Gerald is in his 4th year.

Both are great defenders, but Taylor is also a nod taller than Hendo at 6'7 compared to 6'5. It wouldnt hurt to trade and get something for Hendo bc its looking like we may not extend him (DeRozan, Toronto).

We got two future stars and a steal (Taylor) with this 2012 Draft

No offense cc, but you've always underrated Hendo. I agree that some Bobcats fans overrate him, but he's better than Taylor at this juncture. Taylor has had 1 game on par with what Henderson normally gives us. Henderson is more athletic, and better mid range shooter (Taylor is better on three). However, I'd call it a wash defensively. Taylor is definitely much better in year one than Henderson is in year one, but to call Taylor a "much better overall basketball player, "a smarter player", and the most ridiculous thing, saying that, Taylor "already giving us the same productivity as Gerald". Henderson isn't a slouch. The guy put up 15 ppg (shooting 46% from the field) and 4 rpg in 33 mpg. He also shot 68% at the rim, 45% from 10-15 feet, and 40% (43% in 2011) from 16-23 feet. Those are pretty solid numbers for a young developing shooting guard. Not great numbers, but pretty solid for a guy in his 2nd year of playing time. I respect your opinion, I just feel that you might be underrated him just a little bit and maybe overrated Taylor just a little bit.

According to their Draft Express profiles, Taylor has Hendo beat in no step vert, max vert, bench press and lane agility. Hendo only beat Taylor in the 3/4 court sprint. I think Hendo looks more athletic because of his aggressiveness and willingness to throw down some vicious dunks. Taylor is more timid on the court right now trying to play it safe all the time. If he could ever get in the mindset to use his crazy vertical and leap over guys, he would show his athletic ability.

I think Taylor is a smoother BBall player and has more potential than Hendo, but I think that as of right now, Hendo is the better player. Give Taylor a couple years and some time to adjust to that 3 pt line (and hopefully buy into that aggressive mindset) and he will be really really good.

first I'd look at Hendo's contract....is he a FA/RFA next year? We're still paying him from his rookie contract I think,

which should mean we're getting a pretty fair value. I'd look at what it would cost us next year, and compare

that to his value.

If he does have an expiring contract, that can add to his trade value.

I'd trade him immediately if we could get good value in return. I think he's peaked, and his peak isn't

very good. Not to mention, I like every other guard on our team more than him. He'd be a very good player coming off someone's bench though.

If we could get a first round pick, I'd take it.

See, I don't know if we really could get a 1st for him. If we did, it wouldn't be from a perennial lottery team. So if you value the unknown of a late first rounder more than Henderson (and what we'd have to pay to extend him) then go for it. But I personally think he'd be someone that could come off the bench for us and produce.

And an expiring really doesn't have much value when you are talking rookie contract. I just don't see his trade value being enough to offset his value he would bring to us.

Agreed, I'm not ready to trade Hendo yet unless we get an offer we can't refuse, which is unlikely. I'd also like to see more of how he fits in with this team's chemistry for a little while when he returns.

Kilroy was here with a good point. But with our backcourt now, I'd take a mid-rounder. heck, we drafted him

12th, right? He's played like a 24 or 25 pick at best.

If he wants to come back cheap, I'm cool with that. We'll see what the market will bear anyway.

I just don't see him being in our starting lineup if we're going to win. I could see him coming off the bench

and being a real part of the team. A lot of it is up to him.

Taylor is a better raw athletic specimen than Henderson but Hendo is a lot smoother and has better body control imo.

Hendo is probably the better overall player but I've never been a big fan of his game. He gives you mediocre efficiency mid range jumpshots/postups and thats about it. I think its healthier for a team to have Taylor in there and focusing the offense toward more effective options because while Hendo is a decent defender, Taylor is very good.

Hendos always had 2 things hold him back from being a very good player and he can't seem to get them down, his 3 ball and his ballhandling. Its a shame because he could be an all star if he had handles and a shot.

I don't think other teams would really value his skillset either, nobody is really in the hunt for a bench level talent that needs to have plays run for him to be semi effective.
