Here is where the game is headed

Well, first off we need to ban kickoffs entirely.

Then we replace the football with a balloon, make the players wear bras and tin foil hats.

The players won't be allowed to tackle each other, that's way too dangerous. They'll just hug each other during the game and give each other compliments.

Safety first.

Football isn't nearly as brutal as it use to be.

The current NFL is a bunch of pussies, and it's what the younger generation wants.

Coincidence?

Nope.

yeah fug these 21st century pantywaists, REAL men would play like the ancient mayans and just behead the losing team after every match

but no we gotta be all "lets just let them ride the bus home feeling terrible"

So someone AE's size should have to block someone above the waist the size of Ron Edwards?

Don't think so.

There are some simple changes they can make to curb the risks, but they're going way over board to protect people who know what they signed up for. There wasn't anywhere near this much talk or concern about safety, immediate or long term, when I was a fireman. I knew what the risks were of falling through a floor or ceiling, getting burned, getting pneumonia, etc, etc.

Yeah, I don't agree with that either. Maybe they could devise a rule where blocking below or at the KNEE beyond the line of scrimmage is illegal. That would be more reasonable.

Jack it's all about reasonable risks whether it's NFL players or firemen. You provided essential services with understood dangers, but if your fire marshall had insisted you work amid unnecessary risk because that's the way we did it back in the day and it's taking away from fire fighting - and you were injured or died as a result, I guarantee there would be a lawsuit.

I LOL at all the people in this forum who call NFL players pussies...

I mean really? It's easy to have crap fall out of your mouth behind a computer screen...

I'm sorry I'm not sorry but you have to be one tough mother F*cker to make it in any professional sport...small example but these guys build their bodies to where they squat 500+ lbs and throw up stupid numbers in the gym...takes toughness and dedication gentleman to do that...then go through battle every Sunday for 16 weeks...ain't easy

Why should men play against one another?

We should have each nfl team go against a pride of lions every Sunday. If the players have a hard time accepting that well then they're just pussies

Rugby is played by more men, world wide, than football.

It's also a much more brutal sport than football.

Both sporys, are a modern day version of gladiators.

These men know the risks that come with these sports.

I know ordinary men, that are tougher than the typical NFL player, and they aren't being paid millions to play a game, like the nfl.

Just cause it's not popular, and in the media, most people have no idea/concept.

The majority posting in this thread proves this.

Being British and having played all three (there are two codes of rugby), American Football is more brutal.

Only because players hide behind their helmet and pads and think it makes them invulnerable. Some of the hits people try to make are ridiculous.

Rugby is not even close to being as brutal as football. The entire concept of rugby is built around scrums that basically consist of a bunch of men pushing on a pile. Rarely do you get a rugby player out in space where they can get up to full speed, and when they do the attempts to tackle him are far less punishing then in football because players know they will hurt themselves just as much if they go for the big hit.

I've seen hits in rugby that are much more brutal.

They big hits don't happen as often, but they are still brutal, and they play without pads and helmets.

The game of rugby doesn't stop for injury either.

The game conitues on, while the injured player is seen to.

The point is, these are all grown men.

They know the risks involved of what they do. Footbal, rugby, dangerous jobs, it doesn't matter. You accept the risk to play, or don't play.
