Should we keep Rivera for another Season?

I know its two different sports but all you have to do is look at the Charlotte Bobcats to know coaching plays a HUGE role in turning a team around. Mike Dunlap has a team of just two star potential players in Kidd-Gilchrist and Walker, the rest of the guys would be lucky to be back ups on better teams. Bobcats are 5-0 in games decided by 4 points or less. Polar opposite of the Panthers.. Why? Coaching!

If it were up to me I would have Rivera here in August 2013. I just like the 3 year chance for any coach.

If he got fired tomorrow I would be OK with it

True but in this case I'm doing a criticle thinking argument, I'm trying to get some people to consider a different point of view and have already stated as much in this thread.

Am I doing this because I believe we should keep Rivera? Nope never said we should keep him, just stated the case for keeping him.

This thread is more relevent for actual panther discussion then 99% of everything that's posted in here

Seifert is far worse then Rivera, and its not even close.

Rivera, you could say is not responsible for the current personnel issues with the team.

His offensive line is crap and so are his DBs I think he's done a great jobs hiding the DB's for the most part, which is a fantastic coaching job, and has done what he can with the oline which isn't much.

I know more than likely the new GM will want to pick their own head coach. But does anyone know of any times in recent history that a new GM came in and kept the Head Coach that was their previously? I just want to the know what the chances are of the new GM giving Rivera one more year if we end up finishing like 6-10.

Offensive line was fine last season. I would think he had input on the changes to the line this season so that isn't an excuse.

I'd be alright with the new GM keeping Rivera, only if we get a new offensive coach, and new special teams coach.

....Rivera deserves a chance which I don't think hes really had... While im not completely happy with all his decision he has good football acumen, hes just been handed a bag of sht. I mean Jesus turn water into wine but i think even He would shy away from turning this team around...Finally got rid of Fox and swapped multiple coordinators over the years and still no change in status, commonality in all this is the players for the most part. i just don't want to go into the coaching carousel like Cleveland. play calling is horrible. that's on the coaches, ultimately rivera.

game management is abysmal. absolutely on rivera.

as badly as the Oline has been, it's been hurt. what has the coaching staff done to make it easier? nada. they have been running the same horrible offense that they were to start with. chud has even said that he doesn't really pay attention to personnel on the field when he calls the plays. pathetic. they haven't made it easier on the oline or cam by calling quick slants and screens so cam can get rid of the ball quicker. is the run game working? is it effective? it's not like you don't have the talent. it's because you aren't running an offense that would make the run game more effective.

try some max pro for heavens sake. call some slants and screens. quit that read option crap or at least quit running it so much or so pathetically. it's not like chud knew what he was doing when he decided to start running a read option based offense. what experience does he have in that kind of system beyond this year?

yes, a lot of the problem is chud. but chud is rivera's responsibility.

as far as taking the foot off the gas, not going for it on 4th and short, and a whole plethora of bad game time decisions that has shown no signs of improvement.

i like the guy. i wanted him to succeed. it was in the best interest of the team to succeed. it's not. it's not getting better. we still can't frikkin finish a game. they've got the ability. they've got the leads. they just start playing it safe, just like john fox did for so many years here, and we end up playing not to lose and then watch it all fall apart.

doesn't really matter if people think he should stay, though. it's like jimmy clausen as QB. when he was starting, we knew that it was more than likely that the new HC would want his guy...unless jimmy showed potential to be at least good/serviceable. jimmy had to give a convincing argument that he could do the job. he couldn't even pull off one game. he provided no reason why this team with a new HC should stick with him.

with a new GM coming in, it's more than likely that he will be wanting to bring in his own HC. the only thing that would save rivera is the only thing that would have saved clausen's career as a starter in carolina. give the team a reason to believe. convince the team that you are heading in the right direction. prove your worth and your ability to do your job. clausen flat out sucked. look at the numbers. look at the decision making. he was a quick study. it didn't take long for his case to be made, and lost.

look at rivera, though. last year....not good, but still headed in the right direction. he took over in horrible circumstances but did ok and optimism was high. year two happened and we take steps backward under much better circumstances than the year before.

rivera has done not nearly enough to convince a new boss that he shouldn't be looking for someone else. now newton, on the other hand, showed in his first year the potential he has to be great. he showed he has what it takes. imo, he's shown that he's got what it takes to make a new HC happy, unless he's some old fashioned stick in the mud HC that believes his QB should stand tall in the pocket and stay there or is expecting a drew brees/peyton manning type QB rather than a pretty accurate mobile gunslinger miracle making son of a gun that can throw it anywhere he wants, can buy himself time in the pocket (as long as his Oline doesn't suck and the OC isn't calling plays that take 5 seconds to develop), and can make DBs piss in their pants when he starts running.

rivera will more than likely be gone.

People who think cam would be on the shelf with a new gm. Lol whut? Do you realize how many teams in this league would love to have cam on their team? No sane gm would let go of a quarterback who just had the best rookie qb season in nfl history. The talent IS there the coaching this season has been the let down. And let's say they did let him go who exactly would they replace him with? Please make some sense if you are going to through out stupid things to say.
