Lions just got F****d

The exact same thing happened against Atlanta last week. The rule needs to go, I understand why it's in place but it just cost the Lions their play-off hopes. Maybe, if it happens the challenging team loses a time out, but 15 yards and the review can not favor your team is far past excessive.

That rule that will not be around for another season was correct. But the fact that his arm was down, that was fugged up.

They would have won it any way if they hadn't gone conservative in their last possession in overtime and got a little closer for Hanson. Instead, they made him kick a pretty long kick.

The refs handled it correctly. It's just a very bad rule.

They handled the "challenge" rule correctly, yes. And I agree its a horrible rule.

But the refs totally blew calling the running back, whose elbow AND knee were on the ground, down and just letting the play continue.

The replacement refs were better. That was an absolutely horrible call. I saw that he was clearly down in real time the first time it happened.

I feel for the Lions and all, but if Jason Hanson hits a FG he should hit indoors in OT it's a moot point. I mean for christ sakes how many chances did they have to win that damn game? Bad teams find a way to lose (see, Panthers 2012) and good teams continually find a way to not let "bum calls" be an excuse.

There's a reason poo like this happens continually to the Panthers, the Lions, the Browns....

It wasn't clearly down until we saw the replay several times in slow motion. In real speed it was tough to tell. If they blow the whistle the refs are cementing the ruling in, right or wrong The correct call would have been made via replay if the stupid ne rule did not exist. The refs are not to blame here.

Bad rule I agree (can see the uspc penalty). But....Schwartz if fully to blame. He should know the rules. Either he does not know the rule or he lacks discipline. Schwartz screwed his own team. The refs could have corrected their mistake if it had not been for the illegal challenge flag.

Exactly. If he had kept his arm & knee 1/4" from the ground & the refs blew the whistle then they would have fugged the Texans...

Oh please... if a guys knee mashing into the ground and elbow clearing lying on the ground is "too close to tell" then they should NEVER blow the damn whistle.
