Have you ever Found Money that you didn't know you had?

I have cash so infrequently these days that when I do I'll invariably leave it in a pocket and forget about it.

The biggest chunk of money I ever found though was about 300 bucks I found in a suitcase. I had taken the suitcase to New Orleans and the afternoon after one of those out all night drinking binges I tend to have in N.O. I couldn't find my money. I just assumed I spent/lost it over the course of the night and marked it off to the cost of getting that fuged up.

Found it several months later when I was packing to go on a different trip.

Drank it up on that trip instead.

I had a dear elderly couple I was helping. They both had to go to a nursing home. The Mrs had dementia. When I went to their house to look for something they needed....I found $12,000 and some odd bills that the Mrs had hidden, probably years ago and did not remember. Thankfully they banked where I did....so the teller did not call the police when I showed up with the money, mostly in $20's, to deposit in their account.

i started something back in high school that has become lore amongst my childhood friends. one late night after mucho drink and some narcotics, we go to taco bell. while in line we realized we had ordered more than what we had. or so we thought. i undo my velcro wallet(cool at the time) and discovered a multi folded ten dollar bill. we were stoked and then well fed. from that point the phrase "dollar wallet" was born.

anytime after that where we were a few bucks short for any endeavor, somebody would just say, dollar wallet? and one of us would crack open our wallet and bam.

a few weeks ago i did this while in need of gas. i had 37 in cash on me while not having my debit card.

ever so often i will get a text or voicemail from a bud who goes man, i had the best dollar wallet moment the other day. haha

I found a $20 bill on the men's room floor. Then a Congressman told me there was more where that came from and winked at me!

Seriously, I did find $20 on a floor in a Men's room 12 years ago.

I bought a large collection of Lionel Train boxcars about 4-5 years ago for $700. I decided to sell them off one at a time. I was going through and photographing each one of them and found $200 stuffed inside of one.

in Canada you know, we have the one and two dollar coins...know as the loonie and the twoonie. This act of throwing your change in the jar really adds up quick with those in there! My wife and I spent a week all inclusive in Mexico just on a few months of her tips going in the jar when she was still working as a waitress.

One Summmr after my Sister got divorced, she was out of money. (In Indiana, Teachers can have their check spread over 9 months or 12. Because she was married at the time, she had chosen 9 months)

So she got a job as a waitress as an upscale place near a golf course.

She nocticed 2 things. Tips got better as soon as she took off her wedding ring and as her skirts got shorter, her tips got bigger! She made it thru the entire Summer on her tips. In fact, she took a pay cut going back to teaching!

Of course, it didn't hurt that my sister has rather large, assests!

There is some website that locates money that may be owed to you but foget what it is called. Think it may have been posted on this site a couple years ago. Anyway I decided to give it a shot and there was $350 from an old insurance company I used years ago that was owed to me. Had a check mailed to me a week or so later.

This....

When companies have 3rd party companies administer their bill payments or other financial dealings, they have to turn over unclaimed money to the state. I did the same thig a few years back in NC and they had a couple insurance premiums I'd paid and were held when the wife and I got married and combined our insurance policies. It was about $450.

Now I make it a habit to check for my wife and I both about once a year...

Do these companies cost money to search for you?

Last year we sold our house, then bought another one in a different state.

We only changed our address for important bill, etc...

We did not alert our old mortgage company that we moved.

Anyway, about a month after we were in our new house, we got a letter from our mortgage company. Thinking it was just another statement, I almost just put it in the shredder. Well I opened it, it was a check for $2400....what was left in our escrow. We had no idea that we were owned that money.

It also had been forwarded twice, so it was a miracle it even made it to our house!

Was walking down Canal St. in New Smyrna Bch about 13yrs ago when i looked at the row of bushes lining the streets and found. a folded 20$bill. Well i thought "that never happens" and continue walking. Then another 20 in a diff bush!! Well that turned into a mad dash of finding 20$s under cars, motorcycles, flower beds and front porches. In all a total of 400$ in 20s. I guess someone put a stack of money on top their car or motorcycle and drove off scattering it for about a block. I bought a giant bag of the finest surfer herb in the land.
