I put this stuff in about 5 years ago.

Still works. I've read about some complaints but I have none. Really easy, relatively cheap. Available at Costco.

I don't think they're christmas light compatible. However there are ones you can buy at lowes or HD that have hinges on them that would allow you to clip christmas lights under them.

We had ours removed because they were a pain in the ass. Rusted, falling off etc. We didn't install them so no idea if they were any good.

We have a guy come out and clean the gutters now once or twice a year at $100 a pop.

I would be curious to see what they quote. Someone was telling me it might be $3k+ for our house.

Yes, please look up Owens Corning Rapid Flow Gutter products. There are several of these on the market now and this is a great product.

GutterGuard, Gutter Helmet and other similar products are not homeowner friendly at all. If there is an issue that requires any gutter work, you'll either destroy it or lose your warranty when you try to remove it. They're nice and pricey products, but once you've got 'em on- you'll never get 'em off and nobody else will touch them.

That Owens Corning foam is the way to go. It looks like its about $150 for 15 feet. Does that sound right?

The Owens Corning is about the most expensive one out there.

GutterStuff is another similar product that Ace, Costco and a few other places carry for a little less than $2/LF. Also on sale on Amazon right now....

LeafDefier by Monzi also has a product, but it's closer to $4/LF...sorry, won't even try to explain whay it's that much more....

But it all comes in 4' lengths, usually 8 pieces to a box (32LF). Keep in mind the Owens Corning product is not retailed anywhere I know of- it's a special order at Lowe's or Home Depot, and they limit who they allow to sell, all of which drive the price up.

Meanwhile, GutterStuff is out there on the retail market selling for less than what the Owens Corning product is sold to Lowe's for. The OC product is sold to Lowe's at about $2.50/LF, which is then marked up to about $4/LF retail.

I used to hang gutter for about five years. Let me start by saying that there's nothing on the market that is maintenance free. Most of these products will keep the leaves out, but they will not keep all of the other debris out. The roof gravel, pollen, acorns and various other "junk" that washes off your roof will still collect and/or block the water flow.

I would never spend the money to alter my gutters. In the long run you're just asking for more trouble when the inevitable happens, your gutters overflowing. Someone mentioned larger downspouts earlier, and made light of it. That is probably the best thing you can do to prevent blockage! It will increase water flow and reduce blockage by having a larger opening for the debris to pass through.

It was also mentioned that if you install GutterGuard, if you needed maintenance done, nobody would touch it. This is true! We used to get calls to come repair gutters, and when we got there, they would have GutterGuard we would tell them we couldn't fix it, call them.

To make a long story short. I'd hire somebody to clean your gutters out about four or five times a year. A couple of times in the spring and a couple times in the fall. Depending on the amount for trees in your yard. I've seen about every gimmick on the market and 9 times out of 10 we've removed it!

So when gutter guard tells you that you need bigger downspouts, are they saying that their gutters clog? :)
