How long does Cam Newton get a pass?

I honestly feel like we need to make Cam a game manager type QB until he develops the necessary pocket skills and presence. The offense should not be shoved 100% onto Cam like it is. This offense is live or die off of what Cam is able to do or not do. The pressure should be on that running game and the 80 mil that was invested in it.

Coaching staff needs to take some accountability and understand they are not developing this guy to be a top QB. The scheme and play calling has been horrible. Thats a bad recipe for a young QB. Make it easy for him. RUN THE BALL WITH STEWART!!!!!!! GOD *$*%(&$*%&

game manager with the freedom to run when he sees a hole.

the problem is, i think he's a gunslinger. i love gunslingers...when it works. i hate game managers...unless it's necessary. gunslingers don't always fit into the game manger mold anymore than game managers can fit into the gunslinger mindset.

He needs to be a game manager until we figure out what we are doing on offense. We roll out the shotgun every other play like we are Green Bay with an unreal WR core. This team is built to be a power run play action team. Chud does not have the personnel to sling it all over the place yet thats how he play calls.

If I were OC....i would put the game on the RB's...and use a short easy passing game. Something that will develop Cam as a pocket passer and something that will protect him at the same time. These 15-20 yd routes are getting him killed because we dont have guys that get open and a we have a poo line

Im just glad the defense figured out who they are as a unit. Play great up front and play with emotion. Now we need to the offense to do the same.

He's got the rest of this year and will obviously be the starter going into next. If he is playing like he is now at this point next year he will have competition at the following training camp. Things change quickly in the NFL. I'm sure no one really thought Rivera would get fired this year but it's looking likely now. Cam may not get a 4th year if he keeps playing this way.

Would rather have a surgeon than a gunslinger or game-manager. Surgeon QB's that can slice apart a defense are the ones that win Superbowls in today's NFL. Who was the last game manager QB to win a Superbowl? Brad Johnson in 2002?

i don't want him to be a game manager all the time....just for the moment until the OC/coaching staf can get their crap together and figure out what they're doing and actualy BUILD around cam's talents.

I don't want Cam to be a game manager either... I don't think that's the kind of QB he is and if they force him into that kind of role I think he will fail.

We need a coach and O coordinator that play to Cams strengths and don't try to limit what he's doing... we don't have that right now. Take the leash of and if he fails, he fails...

Long story short... we need new offensive coaching.

For now I would settle for just calling more short passes and putting him under center more.

I'm not sure Newton has the makeup to be game manager but I'll bet he'd like to not be running for his life so much...

If the Panthers keep losing beyond this season, despite coaching and player changes, where does the buck stop?

I'm asking this because I've read a lot of posts of fans defending Cam, blaming the O-Line, saying he's out there trying to do it alone and he needs help. There is some validity to that and he's definitely earned some time to get it right in Carolina. A new coaching staff with some upgrades at key positions might be enough to turn it around.

But what would it take for you to say he's not the answer? When does he stop getting a "pass". Two, three more seasons of the same results we've seen this past season + 1/2?

It;s not about getting a pass. It is about letting a young QB with a ton of talent to actually develop without believing he deserves to be compared to Peyton Manning or Tom Brady yet.

It is about knowing that Cam has the tools to be an elite QB in the NFL but he needs time to grow as a player and as a man.

For me it isn't about giving a guy a pass, it is about managing expectations. I worry he set the bar too high last year and now people are expecting the world from him too soon. Coaches included.

if he wants cam to stay he's gonna have to 1)pay the man more than any QB out there and 2) put a team and coaching staff around him that will win and make him want to stay (which should be happening right nw anyway).

If he continues to be a decent but but great QB, he won't command getting paid more than any other QB out there. I don't see other teams breaking the bank to pick him up if he's not playing up to a stellar level.

Until he gets a better HC and coaches and still flunk then I'll blame him.

Remember this kid is only in his 2nd season and passed for 4k yds last season.

I don't see people bit(hin and whining about a Ponder, Gabbert or Locker. So Carolina Fans, please STFU about your franchise QB. I'm sure 31 other teams and fans will happily take him.

when players dont believe in the system, they normally dont play well. Cam and chud are not a great fit. They clash on everything. They are also limiting Cam on what he is allowed to do. Cam is basically told to run the play called. Dont like it, tough. There is no qb in this league that just wants to be a robot. Cam needs to be able to call audibles etc. Let the guy QB dammit.

I still dont think people comprehend how much Chud has single handily ruined this season. Besides putting to much on Cams shoulders we have 80 million dollars invested in running backs and WE DONT USE THEM. I mean come on, he would have been fired by now on any other team for that kind of incompetence. He pretty much does whatever he wants and doesnt factor in the investments and philosophy of the team at all in his game planning. Sure you could say it falls back on River because he is the head coach but i still think Chud doesnt get enough blame outside of this forum.
