 no kidding. no way i would want to have that guy yelling in my face. most likely would become a colon cleansing experience.

I am really interested to see how Peppers reacts to this kind of coaching!

I could only imagine what it would be like in the film room after a bad game and Baker notices Pepper's taking a play off. :mad5:

updates from panthers .com

On the first day of summer school: We are always looking for smart, tough, better-conditioned guys, and I think in that time even since minicamp guys have been hard at work in our offseason conditioning program and have been through their testing. I think we had some good performances in the testing. They came back ready to go today in great shape.

On how the defensive players are adjusting to a new defensive coaching staff: Excellent. I think we've got fine coaches and we've got fine players. Sometimes change is good, and I think they've adapted. Again, we've got a lot of work to go, and that's why we have all these practices. But they are doing fine.

On the competition at back-up quarterback between Josh McCown and Matt Moore: Right now, Josh is two and Matt is three. Our whole football team is open competition once we get started.

On how much summer school helps prepare the team for training camp: Every year in this landscape in the National Football League you have turnover, so you have offensive, defensive and special teams schemes that you have to learn. You have young people and new people doing it - whether it's a new veteran or a rookie or a rookie free agent - that you can introduce them to your system, and, hopefully, they are that much further ahead when you go to training camp.

On returning all five starters on the offensive line: We did lose some depth on the offensive line this offseason. We were able to keep our starters intact. I think if you had a choice that's what you'd rather have. But we still have to train those other guys in case guys get nicked, which is a part of this game, so they are ready to play. We've got a lot of questions just like everybody else in the league right now. We are all clumped at 0-0.

On if the Panthers will consider signing a veteran back-up offensive lineman: We look all the time to help our football team, and we'll always look. Right now, this is pretty much where the core of our team will come from.

from beason

"I kind of feel like a rookie all over again," Beason said. "But obviously the pressure isn't there, so the transition's going to be easy. The terminology is different, but it's all the same stuff; cover-three is cover-three everywhere.

from harris

Added Harris: "This is kind of (similar) to the scheme we ran in Chicago when I was there, so I don't have that big of a learning curve."

STILL LEARNING: Carolina’s defense is still in the infancy stages as far as learning new coordinator Ron Meeks’ system.

“Right now it’s making our lives easy (on offense) because they are running pretty simple stuff,” Gross said. “In the past our defense ran everything you could think of and that made it tough.

“But it’s letting the players play and we have some great athletes on defense and some hard-nosed players and I think it’s going to let them do what they do and make plays on their own without out-tricking anybody. I know we have a lot to see from defense yet but I know the defensive guys are excited about (the new system).”

This sounds oddly familiar.

beasons comments about peppers and how the new meeks defense would be a great fit for him (also in another thread

"I know one thing, Pep is going to have a lot more freedom to let his God-given ability and his talent that he's fine-tuned over the years, to really showcase it," Beason said. "Pep is a freak, a special type of guy."

.

.

.

Beason, one of the few players to speak to Peppers this offseason, said he's spent the past month working out in Arizona and will stay there until the start of training camp.

Beason remains confident that Peppers will eventually return to the team that made him the second overall pick in the 2002 draft.

"I hope so. The way it's working out with the trades and all that stuff, it's getting late," Beason said. "So you can assume or hope that he is. He's said that if he is back, he's going to be ready to go."

He'd rejoin a team that will have a new look under Meeks, who had been Indianapolis' defensive coordinator. Known for depending on speedy, athletic defensive ends Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis, Meeks is giving his players more freedom than Mike Trgovac — who left after the Panthers' defense imploded late last season, including in a 33-13 playoff loss to Arizona.

"Look at Dwight Freeney and Mathis that were in Indianapolis. They've had very productive careers," safety Chris Harris said. "Pep has already had a productive career, so I think it work well."

.

.

.

Beason said Peppers could even be more productive if he gives the Panthers and Meeks' defense a chance.

"I think it allows the athletes we have on our defense to showcase that," Beason said. "That's going to be huge for us this year, just flying around and making plays."

this is what i was thinking about but at the same time...what if anything new can meeks systems do for a DE...it is still about geting to the QB maybe a more aggresive and less droping back into coverage but thats about it...or atleast thats all i can think of

my thing is how will this affect the locker room. I dont think peppers will cause a problem directly but how will the rest of the DEF play knowing one of there best players wants out and does not like carolina anymore....when the team is behind in a big game you turn to your playmakers. like it or not for the Dline thats peppers and he could have a screw this i am out next season anyway and not give it his all in the game when you have to step up and play from behind to win.[/QUOTEs

so that is what happened during thr arizona game!!!!!!!!!!:(

from gantt

Panthers owner Jerry Richardson surprised his team Thursday morning, showing up for his first practice since undergoing heart transplant surgery in February.

Richardson has stopped by the office a time or two in recent months, but this was his first trip to practice since before last year's illness. He spent most of his time on a cart with retired financier Hugh McColl, but rode around talking to several players, getting up to greet most.

He's lost weight, but looks good, considering he's less than four months out from the procedure.

QB Jake Delhomme said it was a lift for players to see him, considering the seriousness of his condition not that long ago.

"This was not an ACL or Tommy John surgery," Delhomme said. "This was a life and death deal."
