2012 Los Angeles Lakers Thread

I gotta say that Kobe gets less help from the refs than any other superstar in the NBA right now. It's sad. Kobe might average a decent chunk of FT's, but he should average way more with as much contact as he gets in the paint. There are lengthy videos on YT's showing Kobe getting hacks but not receiving free throws... and those videos are showing plays from just this season.

I really get tired of inconsistent officiating. I hate harping on officials but it's a terrible problem (especially the NBA). You can't call a foul when a guy gets tapped on the shoulder heading to the basket, and then keep the whistle in the pocket when another guy gets completely stopped in mid air from contact. That just can't happen if you want your sport to have any integrity whatsoever. Turnovers did the Lakers in, but the officiating in the fourth was absolutely horrendous. I counted at least four occasions where Kobe was absolutely mauled going to the basket and there was no foul called. For a league that's known for rewarding their superstars (and you see it every night with Bron, Durant, Westbrook etc) that's inexcusable....

First off, you guys are correct about officiating in the NBA. It is the worst officiated in any professional sport by far.

But complaining about Kobe not getting help from the refs is like listening to Duke fans complain about refs.

So Lakers fans shouldn't be upset that Kobe can't get a call when Ibaka jumps straight into his body and stops him mid flight, yet Westbrook gets a tap on the shoulder and it's a foul? Okay.... Also, I never said Kobe doesn't get enough FTS. He got a ton when both teams were in the bonus in the first/second quarters. But the inconsistency calling shooting fouls in the second half was obvious last night. One side of the floor a whistle would blow for just about any contact, the other not so much. That's what Lakers fans are angry about, the inconsistencies. If you're going to call hardly any contact a foul, then a pooload of contact surely should be....

That is just pooty NBA officiating which I agree is pooty and inconsistent. But Kobe gets bailed out by the refs more than he gets screwed by the refs.

Again, I'm not arguing this. What I'm saying is the inconsistencies in the second half when Westbrook had the ball last night compared to when Kobe had the ball last night were blatantly obvious....

The Lakers had less fouls called on them, and shot nearly twice as many free throws, and you guys are blaming the refs.

The Lakers shot 40 free throws for crying out loud.

What part of the Lakers were done in thanks to their turnovers didn't make sense for you? Also, the Thunder shoot a ton of jumpshots so they should have less free throws, that's just logic...

Yeah I never said that the Lakers lost because of the refs. Lakers lost because they were outplayed. They did shoot 40 FT's, but the Thunder were fouling a ton. None of that changes the fact that Kobe would get fouled hard and the refs would swallow their whistle, meanwhile on the other side of the court Westbrick gets touched breathed on 2 seconds before going up for the shot and gets the and one. It just seems like Kobe gets less superstar treatment than any other superstar in the game. I'm fine with the refs not bailing him out ever or every 50/50 call not going his way. What I'm not fine with is the EXTREMELY inconsistent job the refs do. I don't agree with much of what you say, T, but I think we can both agree that NBA officiating is the worst officiating in a professional sport (I would even go as far to say that D1 refs in college do a much better job).

Just ckd the score.

WTH hapened in the 2nd period?

39 points, did the Pelicans even miss one shot?

HAHA it was bad, I'm so fuging sick of MDA and his refusal to demand defense out of his team. The guy is an absolute fuging joke. Not only does he not believe in playing on both ends of the floor, but he's too fuging stubborn to actually make adjustments to play to the teams strengths. As long as MDA is around the Lakers will not be contending, his ass should be gone the moment their officially eliminated from the playoffs. The sad truth is it probably won't happen though, because he's a Jimmy Buss guy....

Wow, I know it's the Hornets, but this has been a furious comeback (and also a colossal choke). Now can they just play 24 seconds of defense.....

Dwight makes maybe the play of the game! Completely DENIED Lopez....
