Panther fans expectations for Everette Brown

Hear me out....

I think Brown was a very good pick and an absolute steal in the 2nd round, he's got an array of moves to the QB which is impressive these days. However, is the Panthers fan base expecting to much out of the kid? How many rookie DEs come in and play at a pro-bowl level right away? I mean the guy is undersized as it is and will have to adjust to the NFL game. I've read where some of you think he'll have a bigger impact than Peppers or Brayton which is probably a stretch. Just curious on what the consensus is.

I don't really expect that much from him as a rookie. I think he'll come in for obvious passing downs and not much else. Letting teams move the chains on 3rd-and-long was a big problem for us last year, though. So in that regard he should help immediately.

After a year or two of adjusting to the NFL and bulking up a bit I think he's going to be an outstanding player. He has a ton of talent and the drive to maximize it. Wouldn't be surprised to see him in the Pro Bowl by his 3rd or 4th season.

Honestly, I'm tempering my expectations for Brown. I think he could be really good, but I'm taking a wait-and-see approach. Even though our new defensive coordinator had good success with smaller defensive ends, I'm still going to wait before I proclaim Brown as a force.

Now, I think he can definitely come in as a pass rush specialist and work his way into the lineup in that way. I don't think he's going to take the world by storm right away, as Julius Peppers did his first year.

I think Charles Johnson is ready to come in and play at a high level, if Brown is not. Brayton was really improving at the spot last year as well.

So all in all, I'm happy with the Brown pick and hope he'll live up to all of the lofty expectations. Let's see if he can do just that.

We got 6 sacks from CJ and 4 from Tb I expect him too add more depht and energy too the rotation. Giving us 4 option at the DE spot and don't forget H taylor who has added more weight too his frame and should be a option. So hopefully we won't weaken at the end of the season. We should also be able to throw a really good passrush on 3rd downs and passing downs. Meeks has done some good work with smaller DE so I don't see that too be a problem.

I really like the pick too. I've been watching Everette Brown at FSU throughout the years since my sister was an FSU grad I've always kept up w/ them. I really think he's an eventual Pro-Bowler, sack leader, but most importantly a team leader and very active in the community...he's our new Mike Minter.

He's going to be a fan favorite.

I expect him to come in an contribute but not as a starter, he's got to get better at stopping the run before he can be an every down DE. I agree that we got very lucky by him falling into the 2nd round but having to give up next years 1st kinda sucks. If I were a Saints fan I wouldn't go into next year thinking Malcolm Jenkins is going to save your defense, you know Steve Smith is going to abuse him lol.

I wouldn't count him out winning a starting spot we did give alot for him and he seem too be more polished then any other DE we brought in.

I didn't think Fox would start Otah but I was wrong first game.

Back at you do you think Jenkins is ready for the WR's we have in this division (Smith being the one he will have nightmares about)? Their are not many rookie CB making big impacts on their teams 1st season. Saint fans are depending on him more then we are on Brown. So what do you expect?

Did I say anything about Malcolm Jenkins? This thread is about Brown, keep on topic.

I think Brown will struggle for playing time for at least this year. Peppers barring a trade has a starting job locked up, Brayton came on really well at the end of last year, and Johnson is solid as usual. It will be hard to crack that rotation consistently outside of obvious pass rushing situations.

That should make for an interesting TC battle between the DEs, should be fun to read about this summer. Even though I'm a rival fan I enjoy coming on here in July/August and reading about the Panthers traning camp.

Sounds like someone wants to jump ship, huh Saint J? Or should I say PantherJ?
