Article about Los Angeles targeting the Panthers for a move

I'm a big advocate for Farmer's Field and this is not a likely scenario for the Panthers.

For those that don't know the situation in Los Angeles, there are two competing stadiums currently in place that are ready to start breaking ground.

The first proposed stadium ready to break ground is the Los Angeles Stadium situated 22 miles east of Downtown Los Angeles headed by Billionare Ed Roski. http://www.losangelesfootballstadium.com/

The second proposed stadium is Farmer's Field headed by the deep pockets of AEG. http://farmersfield.com/ There is even a chance that this stadium might not even be built given AEG is up for sale and NFL owners are not interested in the Downtown location, preferring the current location of Chavez Ravine (where Dodgers Stadium currently sits).

The likely scenario playing out is that AEG finds new ownership, Farmer's Field begins building in Downtown and ultimately the stadium in the City of Industry never pans out. Any new team that moves to Farmer's Field will play at the minimum 2-3 years at the Rose Bowl (a mile from my house). Please read the attached EIR from the city of Pasadena. http://www.ci.pasadena.ca.us/rose_bowl_eir/

In all likeliness, teams like the San Diego Chargers, St. Louis Rams and the Jacksonville Jaguars will more than likely be the first candidates to move. I do not see you fine folks in Charlotte allowing such a move of this franchise given what the team means for the region. I would place San Diego as the team most likely to move given their stadium situation and proximity and history with Los Angeles.

I hate the Oakland Raiders and their fan base with a passion and they too are a candidate to move to Los Angeles. The new stadium at Santa Clara, CA is being constructed for both the 49ers and the Raiders and the Raiders are wanting their own stadium and not share with their cross bay rivals.

Relax Panther fans. San Diego, St. Louis, Jacksonville, Buffalo and Oakland will move to Los Angeles before the Panthers ever will consider it.

Think of the situation with the Vikings. It takes a lot of threatening to leave in order to get the new stadium and upgrades required.

Nothing really to see here or get worried about. It is actually a well written and interesting article and should be read to better understand the dynamic a team has within its community and that community's economy.

The article states the obvious of how a team with a privately funded stadium has few hurdles if they wanted to move, but that in itself gives the city more reason to help fund stadium upgrades. That is all.

The panthers are not leaving Charlotte. LA wishes they had a team and wishes they had a team with a 23 yr old CAM NEWTON.

I'm posting this for novelty's sake, but no one needs to fear this happening. Every time a team is about to start stadium renovations, weird speculation always pops up about moving that team to LA. The odds of us moving are essentially zero, but still check out the article. I do wonder what Villaraigosa said to Richardson.

I don't know how to take it if they move here

Well we know JR doesnt give a Frick anout the fans based on what he allowed to be put on the field during 2010.

That being said no chance this happens, bofa is a quality stadium and wont lie dormant.

Would be a great home coming for Smitty though and Cam in LA. Well...............

New seat license fees and massive NFL merchandise sales.

Smith is from LA. Cam is from our coastline, not sure where you got that from.

A lot of conjecture in the article. This part makes me think we should know which way the wind's truly blowing by season's end:

The Panthers have maintained the same stance throughout the stadium discussions, saying the team is working with sports architect Populous and two other firms on a 10-year master plan. The master plan is scheduled to be ready by the end of the current season.

Comprende homecoming for smitty, major media market for Cam?

IF he finds a way to win and continues to play well and make highlight reels I think watch how fast Charlotte becomes a "media market".

It will never be NY or LA but it can be as big-time as Green Bay was when Favre was there (and Rodgers now).

Cam doesn't seem like he likes the media attention to the point where he'd even enjoy the spotlight of LA/NY/Chicago etc.
