Steve and Rivera on Cam

You mean like RG3 yesterday? Sorry, but I'm pretty sure I saw him daydreaming not even looking at his coach. You need to get a grip.

Cam was spot on yesterday in his demeanor. The question is dies he now get it based in the criticisms received lately, or is it only because things are going well

Like Mr Scott said....true leadership comes out when things are not going well.

I think he is getting it and will only improve.

Honestly if I'm an NFL player why do I need someone else , a "leader" to get me to do my job?

Each play you have a job to do. You shouldn't have to be motivated by someone else.

I feel like the only thing leaders should do is pull your head out of your ass when you're being a little bitch, basically what 89 did during the Giants game...

And people are mainly judging and watching you when times are tough. So I really hope Cam can show what's he's made of the remainder of the year....so far he's responded IMO...keep it going and the "leader" will fall into place

Stop talking about Smitty like Cam hits him in the hands every catch. Yeah, 89 has had some drops, but Cam has missed Smith even more, and that's why Smith's TDs are down this year. It's a symbiotic relationship, and as the veteran who is damned near legendary status, Smith has the right to say what he has said about Cam. Play time is over and the kid gloves need to come off in my opinion.

Yeah, because public beat downs are very effective and the sign of a true leader.

I love Steve Smith, make no mistake about it. He is a little tough guy and a huge heart....probably wont' be able to walk 10 years from now from the hits from this game, but, there is nothing wrong with keeping your mouth shut to the media and taking your points one on one.

Think about yourself, at your work, if your Manager belittled you in front of everyone all the time, how would you feel?

Think about your significant other belittling you to your family and friends.

There is a time and place for things.

I am bothered most by the lack of offensive talking to each other as a group during the bench time...if Steve wants to be a leader bring the O together to talk...just do it...you are the C, not Newton.

because before they are football players, they are humans.

humans either lead or are led and even leaders need motivating.

no job or amount of money is going to make the need for being motivated unnecessary.

they can go out there and just do their job or do their job well. the difference between the two is motivation. and the privilege of an opportunity might be enough at the beginning, but at some point they all come back to needing motivated.

Smiths's poo is old.

This type stuff is why I would have preferred the C on a different jersey.

he was given the C because he's respected, not necessarily because he's a leader.

he's respected for what he's been able to do...i mean the man is a legend in the NFL. like it or not, he's what young guys aspire to be as a competitor. he gives it all on the field and even then he doesn't stop.

i'm sure most of the other guys on the team value his opinion on things and want to be noticed by him or get his approval. he's not just some guy on the team.

they look up to him. that's why they made him a captain. his teammates, the ones that are around him the most and who know him better than anyone in here, saw that he was worthy of it. that's pretty much where the discussion should end.

Even after a win we search for B.S. that does nothing but cause division can we just be happy with a victory. An earlier posters said this interview was conducted before the game and it was in the Washington Post. Do you think they or anyone else in the media will paint this organization in a positive way. Charlotte isn't sexy in the media eyes but Los Angeles is. Don't get so worked up with what the Washington Post says about the Carolina Panthers. The media agenda is to eventually get Carolina to L.A. then they will become the darling of the league.

If Smitty did say something negative about Cam or the team so what it is probabaly true. Before Cam arrived Smitty was the man he earn the right to say what needed to be said. All teams in the NFL have talent that is equal for the most part. The only thing that seperates winners from losers is attitude and leadership. Too much is placed on Cam's shoulder. A QB only becomes a leader through his play (winning games) not his stats. Atlanta was garbage for many years and then comes along Coach Smith and Mr Blankenship and that organization has been on the rise every since. An organization who is smart put the pieces around their QB so he isn't exposed to early in his career and he is given a chance to develop.

Carolina has fail to do this our two main problem. 1)Richardson's (failure to hire the right people), 2) RR (having little faith in his players and playing it safe until recently) are the problems not Cam and Smitty. They are disfunctional from an (emotional standpoint) players who are trying to be leaders but lack the skill set to be leaders. True organizations are bigger than 1 or 2 players. They have leadership at the very top. Look at Pittsburgh, NYG and NE

Winning breeds confidence, confidence breeds leadership. Without winning you doubt yourself and when you doubt yourself you can't lead no one.

I would argue he got the C out of default bc we lack real leaders......so the best vet player gets it by default. Per Smitty, he shares a locker room with guys who don't forgive him for his poo ( so I doubt everyone respects him fully).

......even Hurney commented on it when he left. Lack of locker room leaders is a slap in the face much more of Steve than a Cam.
