Nascar attendance

was not a fan of the Chase gimmick from the beginning. I'll be glad when Nascar is done pandering to the northern fans who know nothing of Nascar and it gets back to its roots.

The new format idea is just awful.  The Chase already has an elimination format.  If you suck enough you are eliminated from contention and if you are good enough you have a chance to win going into the finale.  I am not sure at all how they think this improves anything.

nascar's biggest problem is it has no real icons and related storylines anymore. people will watch cars go in a circle all day if there's interesting developments and interplaying dynamics between drivers with well-known histories and personalities.

 

right now nascar's best driver is jimmie johnson. jimmie fuging johnson? are you kidding me? jimmie boring-ass johnson is nascar's face. no one really cares anymore and that's one of the reasons why. i stopped following nascar around 2007 after being a huge fan for a decade and i haven't looked back since.

Things that hurt Nascar:

Losing Icons like Earnhardt, Waltrip, Allison, etc

Making the cars all the same

Making the cars so fast with aerodynamics that it has ruined the "driving" portion of the racing

Restrictor plates.

Moving away from tracks like Rockingham and N Wilkesboro for more cookie cutter tracks like Texas and Chicagoland and Vegas.

All the gimmicks in the world, like the "chase" will not keep fans tuned in. They offer a boring product and will continually have to come up with more gimmicks to have something to talk about.

 

 

Those are the three big ones, I used to watch every weekend, even went to a few races. Now I can't stand to watch, it's way too boring. 

 

 

Something like what the truck series did with the dirt track would be interesting, I say take one of the road courses and cover it in dirt and throw in as a wildcard as the last race of the season. Move another one of the chase races to a smaller track like Rockingham.

Aren't there like three major track owners who have all the tracks and that's why they left the Wilkesboros and Rockinghams out in the cold?

 

The schedule is far too long- they should take a lesson from the NFL and realize that less is more. With 30-something races a year, it's not a big event anymore.

 

Where does NASCAR get the balls to actually label a car a Ford, Chevy or Toyota when the only thing different is that brand name and paint job on the body?

 

We lived in Martinsville for 13 years and with my wife as the GM/COO of the private country club I had the opportunity to play golf with a few of the drivers and have dinner others. Some of those guys are very friendly and personable and others are downright fun guys to hang out with. 

 

I'm not a big fan- been to 3 races- and I do think the season needs to end before the NFL regular season starts.

 

And for the record, Michael Waltrip always has a ton of good looking women around him, Richard Petty is bigger than life and Chris Meyers is almost as tall as I am. Rusty Wallace is a really nice guy, Mark Martin is a total gym rat and Dale Jarrett is an outstanding golfer.

Pretty much all the tracks are owned by the same guys and that's the reason you see stupid race date decisions being made. Those three guys run Nascar at this point because of all the money they throw out. 

 

If they want to stick with the stupid Chase format, they need to do something to differentiate the tracks and races. Like throwing dirt down or using a smaller track or something to throw the balance of the drivers and create interest in the product.

If they are going to stick with thirty-six races they could go with twenty-six tracks each getting one race in the "regular season" and then rotate the ten races that are in the chase.

 

If there are more than twenty-six worthy tracks then they could always rotate the final four or six tracks or something as well.  This could add variety to both the tracks we see as well as the races in the Chase.

Not that I would even watch it on TV I REALLY don't want to see it live.

Seriously, this is stupid.  One race at one track that they go to one time decides the Championship in a winner take all?
