Deangelo Williams a free agent afte this season

Recommended Posts

If he and J-Stew both get over 1000 yards this season, and next, and Smitty keeps being Smitty, and we somehow hang on to Pep...money will be an issue. I don't think we can keep two superstar RBs and an elite WR. Something will have to give.

Well I hate to say it, but Smitty probably only has 2 or 3 years left where he can dominate.....hes not a young buck anymore.

smith is already on lock...and the others who knows i think we can afford to keep all of them...dont forget kalil and davis and beasons and johnsons contracts are up soon....i think in 2011..this is why i think we trade peppers i am fine with johnson and brown at DE

It will be interesting to see what we do if he has another big year. I could see us extending him with some of the money we won't be spending on Peppers next year. I don't want to make this a Pepper's thread but either he either signs longterm which saves us money or he goes elsewhere. It would make sense to lock up key players longterm and I figure that Williams will be a prime candidate if he duplicates his numbers of last year.

Anyone who thinks we'll be paying big bucks to a 28 year old back to be the backup behind J-Stew is fuging delusional. If he's willing to be a backup and take backup money I'd absolutely LOVE to see that happen. But I'm not sure that it will.

this is why i think we resign him next year..instead of him waiting for he contract to end...

So Dwill has a disease that makes him age twice as fast as everyone else?

I have to agree. As much as I love Stewart, DeAngelo is too good a back to let walk. We have to find a way to keep him, let's hope he'll be reasonable come negotiation time. I mean, when it comes to making millions per year for playing a game, why do you need to push for 1 more? I just don't see DeAngelo all caught up in this, "money equal respect" poo...

agreed 100% (or 110%)

the dude has one of the best demeanors i have seen from any player. one of the most unselfish, friendly, and team oriented players i have seen in a long time. if we are winning come renegotiation time, he'll find a way to stay and we'll find a way to keep him. hurney is pretty dadgum smart with the cap. we'll work a deal that is good for both sides.

If Deangelo has another season even close to last year's, and can avoid major injury, we will be paying him big bucks to start. All he has to do is remain consistent and there's no way we can demote or get rid of him, unless Stewart has an absolute monster year. Williams is just more proven so far.

I agree. Stating the obvious here, but a lot will be determined by the market for running backs at the end of the 2010-2011 season. Here's the list of other free agent backs in 2011.

We still have another year to evaluate the balance, talent, and fit of both Williams and Stewart before we even get into discussions of resigning either of them before their existing contracts are up.

lol you guys are right I'm sorry. We're going to waste Stewart's most productive years having him come off the bench while Deangelo takes the field in his wheel chair.

Didn't the Panthers use both in an efficient way?

    • I hope he does well for the team's sake, but he's never going to go down as one of the greats or a monster legend. There's not a thing in him that screams "keep pounding". More like "keep slapping". He just doesn't inspire. he's not capable of it.
    • Second week in our row our defense had stretches of looking like an actual defense. And the turnovers, those were impressive. Tipped pass INT, juggling a slightly behind throw INT and then a peanut punch fumble that decided the game.  - Chuba, obviously.  - Numbers aren't explosive in the slightest but Bryce did have some good throws, avoided any major mistakes and some of his bad habits like scrambling out of the pocket prematurely and taking unnecessary sacks were not really there. Going back to Dalton feels more like a sideways move now, especially how awful Dalton fell off.  - Legette and Coker co-leaders iin receptions. They both did have a bad drop but then again, they are both rookies. Even if BY doesn't work out, these kids aren't going anywhere for a while. - Eddy P didn't Gano the game-winner.
