Why is Rivera failing as a head coach?

this team could be 4-3 or 5-2 if "a" player would have made "a" play at a crucial time in the game.

and the plays were there to be made.

as bad as some of you say the coaching is.........we've been in all but the NYG game.

I'm not ready to fire RR or McD yet............ Chud is another story

As much as I hate to say this, we just don't have the players to win. We have a good core group that could be the start of something(stew, cam, kalil, keuchly). The rest need to be phased out with free agents and better drafts. It's the only way we will be relevant. Cam might win us a few but without help we could really screw this kid up beyond repair.

We very much have the players to win. Were one of the youngest groups in the NFL, if you don't have the right coaches in place to help the young college players develop and adapt to the speed of the game, then you have the 2012 Carolina Panthers. Two LATE ROUND ROOKIES (Norman and Thomas) did a VERY good job containing Dez Bryant and Marshall. It was when the coaches decided to switch up the defensive scheme that had been successful (tight coverage, high pressure) that the Bears started to cut us up. We Just need one more good safety, and a #2 or future #1 WR even though Lafell looks great.

If we didn't have the players to win, we would be getting blown out most weeks. We have been in every game but one. The Dline is playing very well, the linebacking corps is solid. The oline is up and down, but has some young players. We may need to tweek things in a few areas (receivers and secondary), but if your players are good enough to go into the 4th qtr with a close game week in and week out, then your team is good enough to win. They just need to figure out a way to limit the 4th qtr mistakes.

Umm am I missing something?

It would be great if this was true. But it is not. The offensive line has to be retooled. Kalil and Bell look like NFL starters, Gross is old and needs to be moved to the right side, and the interior guard play is atrocious. After that we have to focus our attention on the interior of the D-line. Ron and Dwan are serviceable at best and we could really use an upgrade. CJ/Hardy one week they're good 4 weeks you cant find them. Gamble is getting older while Norman learns on the job and we literally do not have 1 safety in the building. The WR corps is so mercurial that vegas couldnt put the line right on who shows up any given week. Smitty is my one and only man crush but even i know the end is near. Lafell is goin to be a good #2 for us after that nothing. The coaches really dont have much to work with especially with cam taking it on the chin this year.

And yes we need new coaches too.

Im gonna have to argue that if we had the players we would be winning these games. When you have a lack of talent it magnifies coaching mistakes. If we had the playmakers to make instinctual plays instead of always needing to coach these guys up the coaches would be in a better position to call more aggressively.

So every game has to be a close down to the wire type victory? Its OK to blow teams out and win handily. Unfortunately in Carolina, "coming close" is almost as good as a win. There was a time when Carolina occasionally beat teams down, could win games before 2 minutes in the 4th, and had a defense that could close out games. We havent seen that very much if at all in the Rivera Era. This team cant BEAT anybody, and relies on attempting to squeek out games every week. You guys overrate the poo out of defense that has no signature wins and still has not proven it can protect leads late. You're settling just so you can act like our defense is carrying us.

The NFL doesn't work like Madden does, sorry. Coaching is everything. Especially when it comes down to young players. Offensively, we are CALLING THE WRONG PLAYS. It wouldn't matter if you had Rogers, McCoy, Percy Harvin, and Victor Cruz out there, they wouldn't succeed under our coaching/calling.

...so, tell me about those signature wins from the offense, the clutch reads, throws, catches, runs, blocks.

No offense to everyone; but, this entire team is overrated.

The Panthers are what their records says they are and it really does not matter the reason anymore.

IMHO at season end, if the Panthers are not at least 6-10 again during the easier part of their schedule that is all that is needed to be known.

The new GM and the advisors will evaluate everyone: coaches, deffense, Newton, Smith the RBs, the OL and if they need to blow it and start over, I'm fine with it.

It is not working. It hasn't for a long time.

At least they have not quit, not yet anyway.
