Said the same thing about B. Urlacher. Beason will be fine. I love how a guy gets injuried and automatically he is done. Beason has had a small run of bad luck. For crying out loud we held onto OTAH for 2+ years waiting for him and he was 1/2 the athlete Beason is.

Beason will be fine in 2013.

If you are going to go 3-4 keeping Beason should be a must.

Most people would say, but that was under the Hurney regime that we held onto Otah for so long. I am not most people though. We need to have Beason come back and restructure him just like we did TD. Tell him that he needs to show us he can play while battling for an incentive laden contract. Plus, he is going to have to play at the Will. If he will not make those two concessions, then maybe you think about making moves.

1. Hire a new GM - I think the Panthers will go out this time and find a great talent evaluator. I think Richardson will get somebody who he believes he can trust and put together a good football team. This is what we need, because over the years Marty Hurney wasn't that great at picking talent whether its free agency or the draft other then a select few guys who actually worked out. I think Marc Ross has a great chance at becoming the GM of the Carolina Panthers. I really like Eric Decosta but I think it will be tough to pry him away from Baltimore.

2. Head Coach-Their are plenty guys that I can name who will have a shot at becoming a head coach. This time I want a offensive minded guy to be our head coach. In this case I think David Shaw the Head coach at Stanford should at least get a interview for us about becoming our head coach. I don't want him just because he worked under Jim Harbaugh for many years. I want him because he can developed a QB which is what we need to help groom Cam Newton. He has worked in the pros for a while with the Baltimore Ravens, Oakland Raiders, and Philadelphia Eagles.

Today is the trade deadline.

Richardson chose to fire the general manager BEFORE that deadline, the timing of which made the Panthers organization less prepared to make remedial personnel changes. Even an underperforming Hurney on his way out could have helped throw a bone to the fans with a decent trade OFFER (note: not an actual trade).

For being 1 and 6, there is lots of blame to go around, but a symbolic and poorly timed firing doesn't qualify as leadership, nor does it help our chances of winning the next game, nor does it instill a sense of entertainment value for Panther's fans.

I understand our team has a salary cap problem, but we do have proven-but-underutilized running backs to trade for positions of need. There are other teams who also NEED to make a change, and not a trifling one.

Without a GM its hard to negotiate with Dallas, Arizona, Green Bay, Jacksonville that we need CB,S,OL,TE,DE.

Beasons injuries are no where near the same as TDs. While the option to restructure isn't a bad idea letting a top tier linebacker go because a couple bad breaks isn't a good idea. Your overwhelming desire to cut good talent because of a bad break is what makes teams turn into a decade long loser like Detroit. You are so convinced that Kuechly should remain at MLB that jettisoning our defensive leader is a good idea. Just for giggles who would you bring in as a Free Agent to replace the BEAST?

While I disagree with a lot of this, I appreciate the fact that you put it out there. Nice to see how others are thinking.

I probably disagree most about the Beason comment. He is such a leader. I have met him a few times and every time I am impressed with his charisma and love for the game. Any coach would love to have him and would find a place for him to play.

Our problem in the past with the 4-3 was that our DE rotation sucked. I finally think that with Keiser, Alexander, and Applewhite we have some good depth to rotate in there. I'd still love Lotuleilei but actually think he's more suited for a penetrating DT role in a 4-3 than a straight nose tackle.

I think he could be Suh-esque in his impact here if we take him.

So as of now I'd say keep the 4-3 and use the Giants model...They actually have some really physically imposing LBs to pair with that front. Kiwanuka is basically an extra DE that they play at standup LB along with the rest of the DL.

We need DT, a safety, and another playmaker at receiver...and a coach. Don't get rid of Beason tho he's a leader in the locker room and the field and cutting him IDT helps the cap anyways.

Only way I cut him is if it prevent us from signing an impact player at one of those other aforementioned positions..which IDT it would.

I do not think rebuilding is the answer and I think this statement sums it up.

The DT sutuation has cost us at least 2 games

The S situation cost us at least 1

The WR situation is hard to tell, but Smith would be so much better if we had another threat

The Coaching has cost us nearly every game. The only game we were not outcoached?

We are not going to get rid of Beason. If Beason was smart, he would plug in some tape of Derrick Brooks, and learn how to be a better outside linebacker than he ever was. Beason knows no one is going to pay him the same amount of money than what Caroina is paying him. If I was the new GM, I wouldn't touch Beason's contract (unless he isn't healthy), and I would let him earn every cent on the field.

Now there will be some cap casualties. (Ron Edwards, DeAngelo Williams, and perhaps Chris Gamble to name a few) Yet perhaps some of those guys will want to do some major restructuring so they can stay here. As for the 3-4 defense, no. To switch to that, you would have to blow up the main part of our defense. We are too deep into the 4-3 look to change now. Greg Hardy at linebacker? Mwha ha ha ha ha ha! Yet seriously, the guy weighs over 300 pounds.

With all that said, I want an offensive minded coach. If Cam is going to succeed, he needs a bright mind leading the way. Someone mentioned it in another thread, and I'm seriously liking David Shaw. Even if we offered him an OC job, that would be just what the doctor ordered for Cam.

Mike Zimmer isn't a 3-4 guy; I don't like Greg Hardy at OLB. I do believe that Hardy and Johnson can each play 3-4 DE; Johnson has been a decent OLB in spot duty. I like the 3-4 only with Beason here, and that's probably a non-negotiable. Two ends and two ILB gives you room to pursue one solid rush OLB, and drop the better from Davis/Anderson in the other hole (not ideal, but serviceable).

I could go into assistants but won't. Ideally you keep together what you can for the roster, dropping DW and not a lot else if you can help it, mild upgrade at S. Top pick - Star Lotuleilei, grab a corner in the 2nd and draft nothing but DTs and linemen after that, toughen this nonsense up.

Let's be clear THIS TEAM DOES NOT NEED TO BE REBUILT--

What needs to change is the COACHING, like many Rivera sold me on the things he said when first introduced, "an aggressive, attacking offensive/defensive team"....the excuse last year was personnel and injuries to the defense. While the offense lived up to the hype, the defense did not.

This year the PLAYCALLING REGRESSED, no the players to be clear. Two TE sets were our bread and butter and created match-up issues and didn't tip pass or run. I love Tolbert but he should only be receiving check downs. At 5'9, 240+ I shouldn't see passes up the seam to him.

We're on par with a lot of playoff teams when it comes to quality at the starting positions, every team has a weak area, BUT GOOD COACHING HELPS PREVENT THAT WEAKNESS FROM COSTING THE TEAM GAMES. See a 15-1 Packers secondary/pass rush that regressed from their Superbowl run. or a Patriots team that couldn't stop a nosebleed getting to the Superbowl. Same concept with the Giants, their secondary was decimated, but they used their strengths to their advantage, and relied on coaching to put their players in positions to succeed regardless of their shortcomings.

Cam-Franchise Caliber QB

Williams, Stewart, Tolbert-as good a stable of runners as any team

WR/TE-a true start in Steve Smith, and a TE with the receiving skill set to be as good as any

OL-Above avg (when healthy) with two multi-time probowlers

DL-above avg with what appears to be a great rotation, and young

LB's-IMO as good as any when healthy, name a 4-3 team with the LB talent we have that's better....I'll wait

DB/S-I'd say avg or slightly below

We need a staff that put's our playmakers in positions to be effective, be creative around Cam's skill set, but also make defense prepare vs a pro style so when we mix in the college concepts it catches them more on their heels, vs having them expect. Honestly we looked much better offensively vs Chicago than we did all season.

As far as a GM, better talent evaluation, and less draft day trading, giving up our future picks. I'm not against trading down, but I don't like the insecurity of passing on future talent not knowing where we'll finish until we are a repeat playoff team. Our team IMO really lacks depth, that's what hurts us when guys go down, our 2nd/3rd level talent is full of locals like Armanti, who honestly probably do not even belong on the roster, and I mean no disrespect but that is just the truth. You don't draft a 3rd round receiver with a 3YR DEVELOPMENT PLAN.....
