"Another" rebuild? When did the 1st rebuild ever take place?

After the firing of Hurney, I have heard countless times from fans things like.. "Oh great, ANOTHER rebuild." Or "Smitty will retire to avoid going through ANOTHER rebuild." Note the emphasis on the word "ANOTHER." When you really think about it, we never went into a true rebuilding phase after 2010. Adding a new QB and new coaches isnt really a "rebuild."

I mean think about it, aside from Cam and Kuechly, our roster is essentialy the same exact roster in 2010.. Jordan Gross? Check. Armanti Edwards? Check. Jimmy Clausen? Check. Steve Smith? Check. Jon Beason and Chris Gamble? Check and check. Double Trouble? Check and check.

Anyway my point is this. We never really went into a true rebuild mode after 2010, basicially we still had the same GM that resigned the same exact players.

To me rebuilding is what Jordan did with the Bobcats.. New GM, new HC, trading away all the core players and are building with brand new players from the ground up. THATS a rebuild. We have been pretty much stagnate since 2010. Sure you can say we added a new QB and new coaching staff but that doesnt equate to a "rebuild." That simply is just adding a new QB and coach, nothing more nothing less.

The TRUE Bobcats style rebuilding will begin next season with a brand new GM that will (as someone else said on here) Bain Capital this joint, now THATS what I consider rebuilding.. Again, we never even went into a rebuilding phase to begin with after 2010.

No one really ever go into a full rebuild mode. They always intact their core vet players. Just look at Indy for example. Wayne, Freeney, and Mathis are still all there.

For the Bobcats, I wouldnt say they're in a full rebuilding mode also. We went and signed vets in Sessions and Haywood. All we did was drafted MKG along with Kemba and Biyombo the previous year.

Rebuilding is the fans excuse for the pathetic records, play and an incompetant, out of touch owner and FO.

I never believed we were a 2-14, 6-10, (and now a 1-6) team, ever. Fans will try and say that was an improvement, going from 2-14 to 6-10 but to me it wasn't because like I said, I never believed this team was that bad. Ironically, this is what everyone was saying for the 2010 seasons and now they claim we have improved, or than 6-10 isn't so bad because we are rebuilding. Doesn't make sense if you truley believed we are a better team than the record indicates.

Of course, now I am starting to rethink whether this team is as pathetic as the record indicates.

Fans will come up with excuses though and will continue to believe in such things as 'rebuilding' being the reasons for failure. As already pointed out a teams never fully 'rebuilds' every aspect.The average length of the NFL carreer should tell you there really isn't such as thing along with teams who seem to be building forever.

It's just an excuse, that's all, to some fans we are rebuilding, now, 3-4 years after the fact and will continue to be 'rebuilding' until we win games.

Well the op is right in the fact we never really went into rebuild mode. There's a lot of pieces from Foxy still in place and they're the bulk of guys on the team that are meaningful players.

Of the guys who actually mean anything:

Foxy Regime:

Gamble, Beason, TD, Anderson, Charles Johnson, D'Will, Stewart, Smitty, LaFell, Kalil, Gross, Cap'n Munnerlyn, Godfrey, Martin

...I mean we are still pretty much a John Fox team with Hurney's last hoorah of picks and meanwhile these guys coaching are not really doing much with the existing talent (Rivera & Co.)

Meaningful Post-Fox Guys:

Newton, Kuechly, Norman, Alexander, Olsen, D'wan, Sila

We really do need to rebuild. It still feels like a hangover from the previous regime and not really anything new minus a shiny franchise-QB and a few very promising draft picks

Those 14 are only 1/4 of the roster. I would venture a guess that there are very few Foxy guys left.

Sounds to me like we pretty much did rebuild the roster.

Also, out of those 14, only 11 really need to be starters. So that is closer to only 20% of the roster.
