"Serious" chance D-Will gets traded

Multiple league sources tell Profootballtalk.com there's a "viable chance" DeAngelo Williams is traded ahead of Thursday's 4ET deadline.

According to reporter Darin Gantt, "several" teams have reached out to Carolina, and the "interest is serious." The sizable cap hit the move would entail has led many to believe Williams is untradeable, but according to Gantt, the Panthers are "absolutely" prepared to take the hit if a desirable deal presents itself. Gantt believes it "seems apparent" Williams won't be back with the Panthers in 2013 even if he stays put Thursday. As if it wasn't already clear, Jonathan Stewart no longer has competition for lead-back duties in Carolina.

A little different then what we've been hearing. I think he gets traded by a desperate team.

Only way a D Will trade would even REMOTELY make me happy:

Is if on Draft day we somehow finagled our way back into the first round... Even then I would not be happy with our current backfield.

I say he stays though long term because my scenario would likely never happen... And if we took anything less than the first pick in the 2nd rnd we would be seriously fuggin ourselves from a talent standpoint. Contract be damned.... Talent wise, if we get anything less than a 1st rounder with his career stats and lack of injury we'd literally be shooting ourselves in the foot.

Just my .02

That trade wouldn't even go through in Madden. He's 29 with a HUGE contract. You trade him NOW while he has value with teams in the hunt looking for help at RB. We need the cap relieve and D. Will is no longer the best RB on this team. There is no chance in hell you get a 2nd, and at this point we'd be LUCKY as hell to get a 3rd.

If we don't unload him now, all that's going to happen is that the new GM will unload him and we will get much less back, if anything.

    • I forgot about Jackson...definitely elite.  The sad part of your list is that 2 of them were 'there for the taking for the Panthers'.  Rumor has it that Hurney loved Herbert and was vetoed on trying to trade up.  And rumor has it that Frank & McCown wanted Stroud.  I believe both rumors.
    • I went on a solo elk hunt in the Flat Tops. It was awesomely miserable. LOL It was a late season hunt, I think third season and it was forecasted to snap off cold with highs in the upper thirties and lows in the single digits. fug it, I'm going anyway. They were wrong. The highs were in the low 20s and the lows were in the negative teens. I shivered so hard the first night I thought my teeth were going to break. It was the only time I've ever been legit concerned that I might be in trouble. Crawled out of my sleeping bag and got a fire started and suffered through the night bundled up next to the fire. I slept the next two nights literally wearing every stitch of clothing I'd brought with Nalgenes full of near boiling water in the bottom of my sleeping bag. That was the only way to have non-frozen water in the morning anyway. There was about a foot of snow on the ground and the melt/freeze crust was almost enough to support your weight but you'd go crashing through just as you went or make your step. It was exhausting travel and every step sounded like a rifle shot. Hunting was basically impossible. I never saw an elk in those four days, only saw 5-6 deer. LOL It was brutal but I loved it. Absolutely beautiful country that is never been to before and haven't been back since. I needed that four day complete break from society fighting for my life against the elements. I'm weird like that.
    • The lack of production is especially surprising given how much effort the team put into coaxing the best from him.  In just six short years he’s had the opportunity to work with 3 different GMs, 7 different head coaches and 10 different starting quarterbacks.  There’s literally no excuse to be made that one of those combos didn’t work.  It might be time to look withIAN.
