I think he's at a point in his career now where he knows retirement isn't far off and he doesn't want to have to relocate his family after over a decade in Charlotte. I'd be willing to bet that he plans on sitting down with the new GM and staff when they're hired and figuring out whether to continue his career or retire. When he resigned with the Panthers last time, I think he made the decision then and there that he was a Panther until he retires.
