deangelo williams will not be traded

Recommended Posts

The key is having a smart enough organization to trade him BEFORE a massive contract extension. Of course no one is taking on his contract. Hurney was a fuging idiot

His contract is going to stop anyone from trading for him if the price is right. His money is only guaranteed for this year, after which they could force him to restructure or cut him with no penalty. It all depends on what someone is willing to give up for a potential half year rental.

I think someone said that on here before, but from what I have read he has 2-3 million in bonus each year, for the next 3 years. If we can cut him in June with no penalty I would feel a little better. I just get sick of talented 1st round picks leaving and getting nothing in return. A trade before we extended him would have been nice

Agreed, with the exception of Cam and 1 or 2 others, no one is safe.

yep. i think/hope the new GM is going to have a lot of free reign to rebuild quickly with only a couple people being considered by JR to be untouchable. cam absolutely being one of them.

WE will have a penalty, his remaining prorated signing bonus will be accelerated against our cap. If we were to trade him his cap figure would go up for US by 4.2 million this year, and if we did it after the season was over we cut wait until after the deadline (can't remember the date off the top of my head) that allows for us to spread this hit over two years, which would make his cap hit on the books for two additional years at about 4.8million per.

It is actually beneficial for us to trade him this year, if we do indeed wish to rid ourselves of him. By trading him we can accelerate his bonus immediately which is a little over 12million while shedding his 8million and change cap hit for a net increase of 4.2 million or so. Should we cut him right after the season we would be on the books for 9.6 million next year in cap, or if we wait past the deadline, 4.8million for two years.

My point earlier was that whatever team he was traded to could cut him after this year with no penalty, NOT that we could.

Well, this is interesting...

There's been a decent amount of rumors that the Packers could be sniffing around DeAngelo and now Aaron Rodgers drops this little nugget:

http://profootballta...nt-good-enough/

“Quantity is important – we want to have a certain amount of runs every game to keep them honest,” Rodgers said, via the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “But I have to say the quality of them has not been anywhere where we’d like them. . . . We’ve got to run the ball better.”

he ain't going to green bay...

Despite back-to-back disappointing games, Alex Green will remain the Packers' lead back, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's Tom Silverstein.

Coach Mike McCarthy has expressed disappointment in the ineffective rushing attack after the past two games, but Green is apparently getting a pass on his inability to read what little holes have been opened. McCarthy reportedly believes Green -- with a 2.40 YPC the past three weeks -- "deserves the opportunity" and offers "breakaway" potential lacking in James Starks. Per Silverstein, GM Ted Thompson's preference is to save his money (as well as the requisite draft picks) to extend the contracts of Clay Matthews, B.J. Raji, and Aaron Rodgers as opposed to ponying up for high-salaried trade candidates such as Steven Jackson or DeAngelo Williams.

Multiple league sources tell Profootballtalk.com there's a "viable chance" DeAngelo Williams is traded ahead of Thursday's 4ET deadline.

According to reporter Darin Gantt, "several" teams have reached out to Carolina, and the "interest is serious." The sizable cap hit the move would entail has led many to believe Williams is untradeable, but according to Gantt, the Panthers are "absolutely" prepared to take the hit if a desirable deal presents itself. Gantt believes it "seems apparent" Williams won't be back with the Panthers in 2013 even if he stays put Thursday. As if it wasn't already clear, Jonathan Stewart no longer has competition for lead-back duties in Carolina.

Hopefully we at least get our 3rd round pick back for him...

I'd be sick if we took anything less than 2nd for him. How can Gantt or anyone else speak in absolutes about the future of Williams, when we will have a new gm and more than likely a whole new coaching staff heading into 2013?

Hell the article even states that the 9.6 million dollar cap hit would take its effect against the 13 cap. His scheduled cap hit for 13 is 8.2 million.

I personally just can't get behind the idea of trading him. I would understand it more if we planned on keeping this current coaching regime but I just don't see that happening nor do I endorse it.
