Cam's Footwork in Pictures

I don't even know where people get the idea that Cam never studies. Maybe it's because Vince Young and Jamarcus Russell were known to not study, and for some reason they are equating Cam with them. I can't put my finger on what that reason is exactly, I'm sure it will come to me if I think hard enough.

that throw could've been a dump off. footwork isn't as important as people make it to be. I'm tired of hearing about footwork. Cam can throw far off his back foot. that's "not good" footwork but it works

Far isn't the issue. When he throws off his back foot, he usually throws it too far. The ball usually sails high on him.

This may be the dumbest post in this thread....and that's saying something.

Cam's footwork has been bad since his Auburn days, and seems to be regressing this season from a slightly better job last.

It's the reason that we can't hit consistent short passes, the reason that we are all wondering what the hell is wrong with Olsen, and the reason that screens are not something that this team is good at, when we should be a killer screen team.

Cam needs 1 of 2 things:

1: Better coaching.

2. Willingness to learn and apply on the field.

I would assume that it's a mixture of both issues right now.

Cam has a killer arm, but has to learn how to control it, and when to use it. He does not seem to understand this yet.

He will get better, or be escorted out of the league.

You'll never hear a pro QB coach downplay it. Footwork is actually a pretty big deal in passing mechanics.

Failure to set your feet right is one of the more common causes of off the mark throws. Pretty good percentage of Delhomme's picks came when he was on his back foot, and he's far from the only quarterback about whom that can be said.

It's not just 'all in the arm'.

let me rephrase myself....footwork IS important. but everyones taking it to far when it comes to Cam

Footwork is important yes, but when it comes to Cam the added velocity from him setting his feet and driving the throw is what causes the ball to "sail"

Many of us have commented on how absolutely god awful Cam's footwork is this season.

Here is a prime example from the Giants game...

1, Which foot is his weight on while throwing?

2. Do you see any players in his face?

3. Look at the trajectory of the ball. Would you guess that to be long, short, or on target?

4. The third frame, one knee almost touching the other. Clearly moving backward by throwing.

This HAS to be fixed if Cam has any shot at being a star in this league. The longer it is allowed to go on, the longer it is going to take to fix the issue.

Top priority of new GM.... hire a competent QB coach...
