Overall, we need big jump ball targets for the redzone...

That's why Tutu got such a long look in the preseason. Unfortunately, the guy couldn't play.

Many are underestimating the importance of a good red zone target. It is a glaring weakness on offense.

We have enough holes that we can honestly take the BPA outside of QB and RB with every pick.

We need: DT, WR, FS, SS, OT, LG, and CB.

Just take the best prospect available when we're on the clock or if the best prospect available is a QB, then work those phones and try to find a sweet deal to move down.

Promote Steve Wilks to DC, and Mike Shula to OC. This most likely wouldn't happen with a new HC/GM but those two deserve promotions.

What has Shula done to deserve a promotion? Cam has regressed this year. His footwork looks worse than ever, he's throwing off his back foot more than ever, and he's just now starting to actually check the ball down when needed.

Exactly

Our RZ capabilities during this whole Smith-LaFell-(late rounders/FA mediocrity) binge we've been on has gone far enough

Its a big reason why I want Terrance Williams in a Panthers uniform with maybe a Joseph Fauria to package with Olsen. Fauria is a great redzone target for Hundley and will be great as an athletic 6'7 250 TE.

Me too.

Olsen is damn good, but he just doesn't have the hand strength of Shockey. LaFell still struggles with getting open in tight spaces and hasn't fully learned how to use his body to shield the defender. And Smitty has never been effective in that area.

Maybe Gettis can do something? File it under wishful thinking.

Direction I'd like to see this team go-

Trade our mid to high (realistically) first round pick for a lower first and an extra second. With our low 1st and two 2nds go LT, FS and RG in whatever order is dictated by the draft. Then in the fourth go DE, and then in the fifth draft a super tall WR (Tommy Streeter style) we could convert into a CB.

As far as cap management, I would keep but try to restructure both Williams and Stewart, but cut Charles Johnson. Yes, that's right, cut CJ. People on here love to decry DeAngelo's contract as the ultimate Hurney blunder, but I would say that that title belongs to CJ's contract. He's getting paid Julius Peepers, DeMarcus Ware, Jared Allen money when he's just not on that level. We can get the same production with Alexander and Hardy.

As otters have said, DT is ok for at least another year with the Edwardes. CB is good now I think with Gamble coming back, Captain, and this star rookie Norman. RB, LB, and QB are all fine. WR is good even without Steve Smith as LaFell, Gettis and Murphy are a solid core, especially as we start to put Adams in the slot.

This all brings it back to trading down to get a LT, RG and FS. I wouldn't start either Olineman, but rather let them gain experience and provide depth behind Gross (who is getting old) and Hangman. As far as FS goes, you knowwhen people on the Huddle were calling to start Martin again that the position needs to be addressed.

Draft 2 oline in the first and second to have them ride the bench? Behind Hangman??

"LaFell, Gettis and Murphy are a solid core"???

It is early in LA but still???

(I give you credit for the pick trade, I agree with that)

Because starting a rookie O-Lineman has worked out for us so well this season.

"LaFell, Gettis and Murphy are a solid core"???

They are! Yeah, maybe you don't have that elite #1 who draws double coverage like Smitty, but you've got probably three #2 receivers all great in their own way: LaFell's hands and crispness, Murphy's speed and physicality, and Gettis' speed and size. Really though, this is a moot point because I think Smitty stays. He stayed through a change in head coach and will stay through a change in GM (And maybe HC again), especially since we've got Cam. Moreover, this whole seasons just reeks of unfinished business, with vets who remember our playoff runs in 2003, 2005 and 2008 like Kalil, Beason and Gamble going to IR.

At least we've got electricity and it's not flooded here. Too soon?

Yeah, after seeing what St. Louis did trading down and getting Brockers, Jenkins and Quick or what New Englad did getting Jones and Hightower, this seems like a wise move.
