Does Peter King know something we don't?

Im sure Cam isnt going anywhere until after we plug the holes around him to see what we really have. Yes, Cam makes mistakes (and is incredibly selfish) but he is still a franchise caliber talent. When and only when Richardson is convinced that his team cant win with Cam AND a quality supporting cast will he be traded or released.

Keep in mind that this franchise had been more of an unknown than the Jaguars on the national stage for several years, even when we were winning (if you wanna call 7-9, 8-8, 9-7 a success). Jones-Drew has kept Jacksonville relevant in the media due to his individual accomplishments as season leading rusher and highly desired fantasy player. ...and before I get blasted, yes I remember the 12-4 season AND the Superbowl. AND the NFC championship games.

The reason for the national attention is that we have a true face of the franchise in Cameron Jarel Newton. I dont love or hate Cam but I know this is a business too and the buzz around him has sold many a jersey, hat and other Carolina Panthers merchandise to young kids, casual fans and women (some who think he is attractive) across the country. So give it up, Richey aint trading his cash cow unless a new face with as much if not more star power comes to town.

I just don't get the slavish devotion to the idea tha Cam Newton is a lock to be a great or even very good NFL quarterback in the long term.

He finished last year ranked 15th in NFL Passer Rating and 17th in total QBR. He threw for 4000 yards, but last year there was unprecedented passing yardage in the NFL. Didn't 4 or 5 QB's pass for 5000 + ??? . Those are really good numbers for a rookie for sure. But times are changing in the NFL, as this years 5 rookie starters are proving.

Now, lets talk about THIS year:

Newton is 28th in NFL Passer Rating.

Newton is 29th in total QBR

The only non rookies behind Newton in NFL passer rating are Mark Sanchez and Matt Cassell. Ouch.

I don't care how bad the decision to install the read option offense was and I don't care how poor you think Chud's play calling is...there is just no way you can pin those numbers completely on the coching staff. Cam Newton is playing poorly. He is a second year player and he surely deserves some slack, but he is just not getting it done right now.

I don't understand why you think people care about your opinion. Troll!!!

TonyN is correct. If you can't expect and demand greatness from a second year, 23 year old player, it's probably time to cut ties. That's pretty much the apex of development and they're just not going to get better past that point. And if you're not progressing notably while surrounded with a stellar coaching staff like Newton obviously is, man that's just insult to injury.

I'm too tired to post the yearly stat progression of a bunch of other quarterbacks for comparison, but yeah. Across the board, they have jaw-dropping increases in performance from year one to year two and onto year three. Every one. It's uncanny.

Here's hoping whomever we turn up in our GM search realizes this and cuts ties before it's too late and Newton drags us into the abyss along with him.

Thanks, Sloth. Your level of disengeniousness is rivaled only by that of Cam Newton when discussing his own performance. I have never seen an attitude like it in any great quarterback. Never. But I am sure Cam will shatter the mold.

That statement is 100% opinion and in no way based on any statements or secret whispers coming from our organization. He's saying that he's not a 100% sure long term solution based on his own personal assessment of his play this year.

And you know that his statement is opinion and that he has not been told this how?

Oh that's right....you are basing it on Nothing.

I do not want Cam gone. But I am smart enough to know that none of us have any clue what we are talking about on here. I do know that king and others do have sources and do know a shitload more than we Di.

Peter king is just telling the fans/workerbees of the Panthers who hate Cam want they want to hear. This franchise cant survive Newt leaving and JRs imminent passing. Go ahead Meat tell us how much wed win with Pee Wee Herman as our QB. LOL. Cam didnt have to kill dogs or go to the pen for Meat to say hes the same as Vick.

That is BS that he is telling the Cam haters what they want to hear. For him to say that sources are telling him, there us probably something to his comments. I don't know exactly how much his sources actually know. But, to dismiss his statements as nothing but opinion, based on our opinion, is naive.

I hope he is wrong, and suspect that he prob is. I think Cam can and will continue to develop and want to see that development here.

But, given the struggles and new GM on the way, I would never say that nothing is beyond the realm of possibility.

Not always true. Brees and Brett Favre were bad their second seasons but turned it around in year 3. I think Newton gets another year to show progress. This is a lost season for any number of reasons but a significant part of it was the inexplicable decision to feature a college offense for the first 6 games.

First of all, this is Peter King. Hes clueless. Second of all, this is a "what have you done for me lately?" league and its annoying. My workplace is full of Steelers and Redskins fans. Last year, they saw what Cam did and was capable of and they all made sure to let me know Carolina has finally got themselves a great QB to build around, and hes young too.

THis year, 1-6 happens and suddenly, they all are coming up to me asking if we are going to pick a QB in the draft if we get the #1 pick.

My response is always - Guys, he was a Pro Bowler last year as a rookie. Set records. Our OC decided to switch up the offense though this year and here we are at 1-6. He is not suddenly turned into a dud.

NFL is really starting to annoy me. It went from Cam Newton being the next best thing to now he sucks and RG3 being the next best thing. Well...i believe Cam Newton will be here for YEARS and I believe IN Cam Newton. He has a bad attitude and needs to change his demeanor but hes 22-23 years old and that will come with more maturing. This team needs a leader as a head coach and Cam needs a veteran mentor that will teach him how to handle situations. Dude has all the talent in the world and i am PROUD he is our QB. Just ask opposing teams. They gun for him now because he lit up the league last year. This year its revenge time for defenses, but the years ahead Cam is going to adjust and dominate! THE END

Cam Newton had one of the best rookie seasons of any football player at any position in NFL history. To suggest that he may not be the "long-term quarterback" for the Carolina Panthers is absolutely absurd, and anyone who makes that assertion loses all credibility with me.

This season has really opened my eyes to the hacks in the sports journalism.
