If we had the TItans defense from then and Fisher as our HC along with last years offense, Cam would be considered a winner as well.

He had that string during his rookie season where he was winning games at the end. Winning them in amazing fashion. Pretty much everyone thought he was going to be the next big thing, especially compared to the other three top quarterbacks that came out that year...Cutler, the kid from USC and Brady Quinn (I think it was Quinn). Then the League caught up to him his second year and he couldn't handle it.

Vince young and cams careers have been nothing alike. Vince young had a very Sanchez like start to his career, being a crappy qb on a team with a good defense. Cam had a very Peyton manning like start to his career, big numbers on a crappy team.

Both won national championships in college. Both did something in their rookie seasons that made people think they would be the next great QB in the League. Both struggled when opposing DCs adjusted.

I just looked Young up on Wiki. He replaced Kerry Collins after the Titans got off to a 1-6 start in 2006. Behind Young, the Titans won seven straight games at one point and finished 8-8. Young only had 12 TDs against 13 picks, but he also ran for 550 yards and seven touchdowns.

I think there are a lot of valid comparisons there.

So you're a stats guy, I guess? Young played GREAT. I just told you he took over a 1-6 team and won seven straight games. Most of those wins came in the fourth quarter, too. Yes, his defense kept him in the game, but you don't win those games in the fourth without solid QB play.

Okay, if you want stats...if you include his rushing touchdowns, his numbers were 19 TDs against 13 picks. He passed for almost 3,000 yards and ran for 550 in NINE STARTS. Let that sink in.

I still have hope for Bradford, but he just got destroyed by Brady. I'm starting to wish we had picked Suh. Imagine Chris Long, Suh, and Robert Quinn on the same line.

Bottom line though? Wouldn't bet on it myself unless Newton looks bad through the rest of this season and the next.

Young did not play great. Young was tebowesque with more picks. Also he played in 15 games. And if you are going to add his rushing tds to his passing, you also have to add his fumbles, of which he had a shitload

Okay, you're not a Vince Young fan. But there were a lot of people who were. Especially considering how bad the kid from USC played (all I can think of is Barkley, but that's the guy whose there now...Matt Something). People thought Tennessee got a steal with Young after four other teams passed on him.

I don't know that I'd say Young started out "great".

Saying he started off "promising" might be more accurate.
