Contracts Status?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any knowledge on the following contracts:

Godfrey

DWill

Gross

Gamble

Beason

Stewart

Are these contracts front loaded? Back loaded?

How much is guaranteed? Cap penalty?

Is it realistic to think these can be re-structured, cut, or traded?

Click on each player indiviually to see their full contract breakdwon. Beason and Gambles can be found on rotoworld..The link I provided is better but it does not allow you to see the contracts of players on I.R. without a premium subscription.

When looking at the signing bonus portion of the contracts, that is the amount that would take an immediate hit on our cap if any of those players are traded.

If we cut any of them next year we can spread the hit over 2 years with the restricition that we have to absorb the signing bonus for 13 immediately and the remaining amount scheduled to be hit over the other years will all hit in the 2nd year.

Here is the best site I am aware of for all of the official rules on the salary cap and effects of cutting or trading players and everything else you would like to know http://www.askthecommish.com/salarycap/faq.aspx

I wonder if the new GM will be willing to part ways with some of these guys and absorb the penalty...

Well if it was 2010 and an uncapped year again, sure. Problem is we are reportedly already $5 million over the cap for 13 and don't have the room to absorb much more dead money without getting players to restructure.

We're going to have to, at least to some extent. Cap growth is expected to be pretty flat, and at some point we have to start cleaning up the books.

So yeah, I think a new GM will do it as necessary to give himself more flexibility in the future.

That's just an estimation based on an assumed 2013 cap, which hasn't actually been set. It's still a fairly good guess. Contrary to popular belief, we can cut some contracts and end up with a positive gain in cap numbers. We should also be able to restructure some contracts as every team restructures a few every year to maneuver around the cap. Our current cap figure will be manipulated as necessary in order to make some moves that the new GM and coaching staff deem necessary.

Any player that decides that they don't want to restructure to help the team after it's been deemed necessary, will likely be shown the door, cap hit be damned.

Keep in mind though that some would end up having little impact on the cap plus or minus next year, so it's 2014 that would be the bigger hit. Cutting DWill in 2013, for example, wouldn't hurt us in 2013, but would be a bit negative in 2014.

not a chance williams or charles johnson or even beason restructure.

Cj just seems more about the money than anything.

beason's role is diminishing and he's on his second season on IR so no chance of a big deal anywhere.

williams said he doesn't care about getting moved back to 2nd on depth chart because it doesn't effect # of carries that much and he still gets a check. gets paid for doing less.

it's going to take a lot to get out of these deals.
